Damascus sorting the good from the bad

No i had't but thanks for the link . Its really good . And glad i could help . All the best .

I don't believe I used the word awesome in my message and I was very clear that these didn't make it to my collection. However, more time has gone by and I'm not changing anything I stated in the past.

I see hand tools for digging out dandelions selling for $60.00 that look like feces and for the same money I can dig my dandelions with a beautiful knife that works great. I'm guessing that at least some of you can't afford to use a $11,000.00 knife as an everyday carry, I can't.

All I can say is buy one and try it because until you do whatever you say is conjecture.

How does one tell, just by looking at a blade, that it isn't made in Pakistan. X-Ray vision perhaps.

For the knives I make personally I normally buy damascus from Swedish artists ( because I like the Nordic knife designs) and they are better quality by a long shot, plus they can make the damascus to your design to some extent.

If someone has the ability to test steel and give the forum the results I will supply a knife to test.

.

Guess I need to proof.

Mattias Styrefors is a Swedish Blacksmith who makes wonderful damascus blades. I have a couple of knives with his blades and they are very fine. His stuff is sold through Brisa and the Good Stuff Store. His web site: http://styrefors.com/

I was wondering, given the large amount of knives now coming in from Pakistan, if these knives are any good?

I personally have never seen any good steel or knives come out of Pakistan. None! Regular or damascus. I have seen steel like products, stuff that couldn't harden, stuff that was burned, and, one time chrome plated plastic or something. :(

Alabama damascus is not going to win a lot of admiration and jealous looks but it sharpens very easily and takes excellent edges. It has 52100 and 5160 in the mix so it has good genetics . :) The ones done by Kershaw took savagely sharp edges!
