Damascus spoon

Thanks everyone,

This is a sauce spoon. It is 9 inches over all and 2 1/4 wide. It was a lot of fun to make, but I was suprised at how much work it took to make.

I can see this as one component in a complete serving set. A couple of these, maybe a slotted spoon, a gravy ladle (I bet that would be a bigger challenge), a smaller one for the cranberry jelly, and of course a knife and fork for carving. Be pretty impressive at Thanksgiving dinner!

David your crazy:D

Thanks for posting.

BTW do you think they should be fully carved?

Yes. Could have been worse; It's not like I suggested damascus platters and serving dishes.

Thanks for posting.

Happy to.

Of course! Make the handles thicker and I'll carve them.

We'd need a spoon for the mashed potatoes, a spoon for the dressing, a slotted spoon for the green beans (or another solid one for green bean casserole), a ladle for the gravy, spoon for the cranberries, a knife and fork to carve the bird, and a pie server for the pumpkin pie. I think that covers the major items for Thanksgiving dinner. I'm in if we find a customer.

Later on we can build a set of carved stainless damascus steak knives.

wow, exquisite! in case you should decide to make more of these, please let us know. i'd take a set of four teespoons!

best regards,

The Japanese have a word, as you know, Devin....Shibumi.

Shibumi refers to a particular aesthetic of simple, subtle, and unobtrusive beauty.

I keep coming back to this, and keep thinking about it.....reminds me of the carving of Jim Kelso.....it needs no engraving, carving or adornment in my opinion, were that to happen, it would be overwrought and have gone past what it was supposed to be.

Best Regards,

Exactly. To me, engraving this spoon would detract from the beauty of the damascus. It is gorgeous as it is!

Gotta admit, you are absolutely right. When Devin mentioned a little engraving by Julie, my mind went into overdrive, I think. It's pure as is.
