Damascus steel layers separating?

I was admiring some of his work just the other night. Was the picture ever posted of the split?

It was made by a member here, Alan Davis, to my design.

It certainly can't hurt to contact him. If nothing else, if the steel is defective he can avoid using more of that batch.

Yes he's gonna want to know so he can find out what went wrong 'lest any other problems arise!

No. OP doesn’t know how to post pics.
I do know how to post pics, I've posted two since I joined BF, but my ZTE cellphone lacks a camera with sufficient closeup resolution to show anything useful. I tried to take one yesterday. The entire area of damage is only about 1/4" across and the widest separation is only about as wide as two sheets of paper are thick.

If I find a way to get a good picture before I send the knife off to Alan, I'll happily do so. I understand why this is interesting to some board members. But I can do without the snark.

No snark intended. None whatsoever.

Well, good news on the separating Damascus steel layers.

I sent the damaged blade to Alan Davis December 5th, and he confirmed my diagnosis a few days later. So he shipped me an all new replacement knife, which arrived Monday, December 18th. Amazing. If anything, it's even better than my original, the ironwood has a better pattern to it, and he even made a brand new sheath for it.

He's been a real pleasure to work with, very professional, his work is beautiful, and I look forward to having him make me another knife again in the future.
