Hi friends,
I'm needing some damascus for a couple custom orders here in the next week or so. I am needing it for my Strider Knife, and my Legolas Long Knives. The company I get my steel from doesn't sell damascus and the other supply companies I've looked at can't get it the length I'm needing. Does anyone know a good place I can get it. These are the measurements I'm needing:

21" long, 4" wide, 3/16 thick
22" long, 2" wide, 1/8 or 3/16 thick

Thanks for your help.
Chris

Call Brad at Alabama damascus, I was across from him at Atlanta and I know he has pieces that big.

Call Brad Vice at Alabama Damascus at 256-282-7988. He is one nicest people I have ever dealt with. Prices are very reasonable. Quality is Incredible. Be warned. You end up using on all of your knives. I just wanted one billet in Feb.
I have bought 8 billets since then.

Thanks guys. I had several recommend Alabama on SBG too. I think I'll try Brad out.

This is my first time working with Damascus, so I have a couple follow-up questions: Is there any tricky things I need to be aware of before I start cutting and grinding into this steel compared to my regular steel (5160)? Is the heat treatment different?

Any tips would be very helpful.
Thanks, Chris

Brad's stuff is very good but it will throw a ton of sparks. I have set rags on fire while grinding it.

He will send you heat treating and etching instructions with the steel. I like to polish it pretty good and then follow his instructions for etching. He will also gladly answer any questions you have about working it.
