Damascus steel

I am currently working on a project that I am going to give as a gift for someone who is stepping down as the scoutmaster in the troop I grew up in. I would like to make the blade out of Damascus steel I have looked on Aldo's site but I couldn't find pre made Damascus steel I would like to know where I can find some for a reasonable price or if I would have to try my hand at forging it myself. This will also be my first time working Damascus steel and I would like to know how much of a challenge it is to work compared to the D2 tool steel I have been working with lately?
Thanks in advance.

Try alabama damascus. Very reasonable prices and it's available on their website or ebay. Their steel is annealed but is not normalized. It is easy to work with but you have to hand finish to a high grit and then etch.
