I was wondering if I could make damascus out of carbon steel and mild steel ? I'm trying to avoid ordering nickel or Stainless if I can .

Bill Moran in his video on Damascus used O-1 and mild steel.
Most now days use two types of carbon steel like, O-1 and 1084, or 1084 and 15N20. I have used both of those combinations with great success.

Yes you can, some of the prettiest Damascus Ive seen had mild steel in it but it is used for cladding on san mai blades..You will lower the carbon content of your end result by just using mild steel and high carbon in equal parts.
