wonder'en what yall do with you left overs of your Damascus billets?

i posted a pic yesterday of a wrought and nick. smitty knife i made from left over material that i had from a cake server i made for my sis's wedd.

today i forged and cleaned up to more one was cable and the other was a piece of cable that i drew out and then took a piece of 1085/15n20 Damascus and wrapped it around the cable and welded. they came out pretty neat.
sometimes i save those pieces and add them into later billets, but i think this is a pretty neat way to use up some tiny pieces if ya just weld them together, the differing materials give some neat results.

I'll post some pics in a bit if any one wants to see.

Just save all the scraps from Damascus and carbon blades along with any and all screwed up blades then bundle them up and weld back together give it a few twistes and then fold and weld then forge out a blade. It is what we have called "Frontier Damascus" around here for years....Here is a old picture of some (sorry about the bad pic cant find the good ones)

You can even throw in some of the mild steel scraps from guards to add color to the mix and I have been known to add a wrench or socket and anything else I can find laying around the smithy that is good scrap.Makes for some really interesting patterns.
