Damasteel AB from Sweden

Tom,
The Damasteel is very nice looking. I bought the introductory piece that they offered a while back. I havn't used it yet but it comes with complete analysis and heat treat instructions. It's available from Michael Walker in NM.

Damasteel is very high quality, grinds easily and heat treats without any problem. Be sure and try their RWL-34 powder metal version of ATS 34. Damasteel also has a handbook in english about their products and about Damascus in general that's a great read.

The only downside to Damasteel is that the product is of such quality that there aren't the variations from piece to piece which gives hand forged steel it's unique character.

By all means try it out. The stuff's not cheap, but then what is...

Hi Tom
I have worked with Damasteel for about a year now. I like it very much. It grinds easy. Easyer than ATS-34. I like the fact that its powdersteel and I have started to work with RWL-34 too wich is one of the componenst in damasteel. I heattreat it along with my ATS-34 and it works fine. Because of the powderconstruction and the cryotreatment it should be possible to raise the RC a few points higher than whats normal for ATS-34(I use 60 RC) but I dont fins that necessary.
I work mostly in the Rosepattern and Odins Eye. Very nice patterns. I just got 4 feet of a pattern called Vinland but have not made anything of that yet.
Below is a picture of a knife in "Rose"

Hello!

Tom, i have worked with Damasteel since nearly two years now. I buy it as round stock and do the pattern work and the forging by myself because i found this to be much cheaper than buying the finished flat stock and i have more influence on the pattern designs.

I am living in Germany and have found the prices from the retailer here much too high, so i purchased the steel directly from Damasteel AB in Sweden. I did this three times without any problems. Delivery was fast and accurate.

Now isn't that a purty knife...and look, it's in my pocket

Seriously though, I have the knife pictured in Jens' post and have found it to be a great piece. The steel seems to hold an edge better than ATS-34, and seems to get sharper too.

Don't forget to pay your taxes...they eventually become my knives:)

I have a piece made by Jens and the steel is Damasteel in the Odin's eye patten. I have been using it outdoors for quite a while now and it has held up very well. It has a very nice even pattern on it and holds an edge very well. Jens would need to tell you about the heat treat but they did a very nice job on it wherever he had it done.

(Stealing from Jens site...)This is the knife he did for me
