Do any of the custom makers out there use Damasteel, or know anything about it. The only use I've seen is on Tinives, and they're way too rich for my blood.

Amacks,

Stainless Steel Damascus is in use by several well known knifemakers. Most will use this on a knife if you request it. A stainless steel Damascus blade and bolster will add approximately $150 - $200 to the cost of a standard design.

Two places to check on this steel are:

Stamascus:
Ed Van Hoy
413 Fairhaven Road
Taylors SC 29687
(864) 268-9849

Stainless Steel Damascus:
Devin Thomas
90 North 5Th Street
Panaca, NV 89042
(702) 728-4363

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info, but the stuff I'm really interested in is a powder-metal damascus steel branded "DAMASTEEL" and made by Wolf Borger in Germany. I saw an add for pieces of it in knife-size in th March issue of Blade. I cannot remember the name but the e-mail address is damascus@newmex.com. Ne was advertising single pieces at $58.

I have been pondering getting a knife made of this, but was wondering about performance and how the price compares to standard stainless damascus billets

Thanks.
Aaron

Hi Aaron,

Ive only had one knife with Borger Damascus. A very nice Steve Hoel interframe folder, with Jade inlay and Borger Damascus blade. I didnt keep it long enough to even get a good look at it.

You might want to pose this question to Darrel Ralph in the Blade Smiths Forum.

It is easier to get things done with a kind word and a knife, than with a kind word alone!

You can see a knife I made from Damasteel on this forum under the thread "couple new ones" of last week.

Damasteel is the trade name of a Swedish company, and as Aaron pointed out, it is based on powdered metallurgy, employing RWL34 as the primary steel. It is marketed exclusively in the USA by Michael Walker, and in Canada by J.T. Downie.

Hello, Aaron

Damasteel is quite a pretty stuff and I have heard only good things from Flavio Ikoma, and the Lála brothers (Korth), who are now using it almost exclusivelly. Check out their updated sites at Cutelaria Hoje and you will see some damasteel bladed knives there.

Damasteel is my favorite damascus because of its cutting performance and low maintenance (as compared to many carbon damascus blades). Several of my customers use Damasteel knives for their EDC.

Not only that, the stuff is flawless to work with. I've never had bubbles, peels or cracks appear during heat treat. :)

I have owned several knives by Pat Crawford that used Damasteel blades. Both knives are Januses. One was twist and the other was Oden's Eye.

Great Stuff..

A lot of makers here in Aus. have been using Damasteel for a couple of years . It is beautiful stuff and seems to be very sound and consistant.

it appears like an old post was dugg up since Aaron allready has at least one Damasteel knife....made by Me
