Agreed on a trade with a reputable fellow forumite 2 days ago. We both shipped at the same time on that day. The package that I sent was routed incorrectly and was delayed at least one day. The package that he sent still isn't in the system yet. All attempts to track it have failed. I refuse to believe that I've been ripped-off since the other guy has been here quite some time and only has good feedback here. How many of you guys have had UPS lose a package or delay it for an unreasonable amount of time? The wait is killing me!

Ok what the hell??? I just checked the package that I sent and it was routed incorrectly AGAIN!

I too have had many problems with UPS . . . to the extent I refuse to do business with them any more. Once, they took ten days to get a package that contained a shirt across the state of Tennessee. The package actually made three trips back & forth across the state and was finally delivered . . . three days after the birthday that prompted the shipment in the first place. :(

On another occasion, UPS was to deliver an insured package worth about $1000 to my home and obtain a signature indicating delivery was completed. The package was left adjacent to a downspout at the corner of my house during a driving rain and I was fortunate to find the camera before it floated off. Good packaging by the supplier prevented any damage.

UPS once provided good service in this area . . . but not anymore. When ordering items now I request the shipment be made via any carrier other than UPS. If the supplier cannot do this, I go elsewhere to make the purchase. Have generally had good luck with Fedex, albeit at higher cost, but it's worth it to have confidence in the carrier.;)

I am definitely NOT using UPS anymore. I will request USPS or FEDEX. I've never, ever had a problem with either of them.

I hate UPS as well and will never use them again. They not only lost/stole a ATCF but they dropped off a Custon Greg Lightfoot to the wrong address and even the wrong street name of a driver release. That was enough to be done with them for good.

I only use Fed Ex and USPS now and as many knives I've sent and had sent to me, they haven't failed me yet.

This difference in service must be in certain areas. I have done quite a bit of shipping and receiving in the last 13 months(mostly other items than knives) and I have had the opposite experience with the two. Last month I shipped a package by USPS, that went a distance that I can drive in 6 hrs. and it took 12 working days to get there. If this was an isolated instance I wouldn't think anything about it. At Xmas my wife sent a package by the same carrier to one of her brothers that lives approx. 200 miles from here and it took 31 days for him to get it. So far I have had no problems with UPS. FedX had been very reliable also.

I contacted UPS and they are re-routing my package to the return address. The package that I was expecting from the other forumite still hasn't shown up in the system after 3 days. Now I'm starting to wonder if it ever went to UPS at all... I sent a couple of e-mails to the other party over the past 24 hrs and have not gotten a response so I'm a bit on-edge right now. It's too soon to tell though. For all I know he may be out for the weekend. Not quite willing to condemn him yet. I just have a bad feeling.

Now UPS is changing their tune. They are now saying that they won't return my package, even though it has a shipping problem and is apparently still at the facility right down the street from me!

At least my e-mails to the other guy are getting answered now. What do you guys think I should do about this? I obviosly expect my knife back since his never even shipped. Even if he did drop his knife off for shipment, it never made it into the system or to me so I should get mine back, right?

Have never had those problems in this little town in Montana. We don't even have a UPS office (we use a "pickup point" at a local auto dealer) and everything I have shipped has made it to the customer within 4 or 5 days via ground insured.
All of the stuff I have ordered from suppliers (from chunks of metal to lathe tooling and abrasives) has all arrived at my shop within 3 to 5 days if not on back-order.
I don't have any problem with these folks. I pack and label stuff carefully and so do my suppliers, and I keep a record of the tracking number for the shipment just in case.

All is well now. The morons at UPS put the wrong tracking number on the receipt. I'd like to talk to them face-to face about this. The nasty-gram I sent by fax just didn't get my feelings across well enough. Needless to say, I'll be using other forms of shipping from now on.

Glad you got it straightened out.

It usually boils down to human error....but.

My wife sent her grandma a birthday card via USPS that had to travel a total of 30 miles. Her grandma received it 6 weeks later. I thought to myself..........WTF!!! That was the first time and hopefully the last time something like that happens. Big D1

UPS is a union shop all the way. In the right to work states, where many of the UPS employees are not Teamsters, you'll find that the service is significantly better. Unions take all the incentive out of doing your job correctly or even caring about it.

UPS just plain stinks (a very kind word, their corporate color is brown for a reason)... Here's my recent story. This is the second or third time in a row this has happened to me (well similar):

The shipper lives 20 miles from me: (I still don't have the package yet):

BTW my co-worker filed a complaint with the BBB (by letter) and the funny thing is that UPS actually called her a week later (after a month of turmoil with UPS) and begged her to retract or resolve the BBB complaint. They also gave her some $$$ to cover her troubles.

I suggest this might be the only appropriate disciplinary route we can take against some UPS incompetence.

I used to tought USPS, but recently they've let me down (since December). But still would trust them over UPS any day

First the package leaves Ohio and goes to New Jersey, only to be sent back to Ohio, and then back again to New Jersey. It was scanned onto the truck on the 28th to be delivered and never seen or heard from again.A tracer was put on the package, which they said could take 8 days.Just about 8 days later I get a letter with their findings. The letter had the tracking number of the package I sent at the top,and on the bottom of the page had the progress of a package that had been signed for by the guy I shipped my package to.The only problem was that it was the wrong tracking number!I called them again and they said they would put another tracer on my package, and yes,it might take another 8 days!I received another letter almost 8 days later saying that they had failed to deliver my package and to fill out the claim form and fax it to their claims dept.A couple of days after I faxed the claim form I get a call from UPS asking for a receipt, and after explaing that there was no receipt, and that the transaction had taken place through emails that had long since been deleted she said just to right a letter stating such. The package had a value of $200,which is what the guy paid me for the knives, and that is what was declared on the UPS shipper receipt. She tells me that since I didn't buy additional insurance the claim could only be paid for $100.I told her to check the faxed copy of my receipt and she would see that the declared value was $200.She said that they hadn't charged me the extra $.35 and that it wouldn't be covered for that much since the claims dept. was only authorized to pay claims up to $100.At that point I was fit to be tied, and told her that it sounded like a UPS problem and that they had dropped the ball the entire way on this package, and not only would they lose me as a customer but I was going to take them to small claims court.I then asked to speak to her supervisor. She comes back a few minutes later and says that they are going to check their archives for the top copy of the receipt to see if insuarance was purchased.I finally received a call today (02/27/02) saying that I would be covered for the $200 and the claim was being forwarded to the insurance adjuster. It's only been a month and 5 days and still no closer to closure.I think I will enclose a copy of this thread, and the URL to UPS customer service for their consideration,or maybe send it to the BBB.Ken
