Most here know the name of knifemaker Dan Burke, for his collaboration slipjoints with Queen. He is a custom slipjoint knifemaker & collectors know him for his renditions of Sheffield Exhibition knives, multi bladed & hafted in pearl,Ivory & Tortoise & very fancy embellishments.
Dan is now using a cutlery steel from Sandvik,of Sweden.
They specialize in cutlery steel. This new steel,14C28N,is a combo of their 13C26 razor blade steel & their common 12C27 ss. The end result,a ss that'll take a razor edge like some of the carbon steel you all know to get that "toothy" edge.Knifemakers will like it as well,as the HT time is reduced, the liquid nitrogen quench takes less time & the temp. on the HT needs not to go as high as other ss,so its easier on your oven
Schwew! That's allot but I think I got it right.
I gotta tell ya',proof here is in the pudding, taking these pics I almost had the blood spilled a few times. Finished out with Westinghouse Ivory paper micarta, gorgeous f &f,walks 'n' talks with the best of 'em.This knife is a wicked, wicked slicer.Thank You Dan & I am honored you made this EDC style "shadow" for me.I'm already thinking about shadow multi bladers (a Congress with blades in this steel!!) & guess what ? Kitchen knives, too. Immediately upon observing this blade & feeling it's edge, I envisioned a Japanese style Chef knife & a paring knife too !
I've heard knifemakers say this Ivory Micarta is almost as hard to finish out as real Ivory, photographing it in Arctic conditions this afternoon produced these...
Enjoy the eye candy & Thanks Again Dan !
