Saw a piece very similar to this at Blade, and Dan agreed to make me this one.

The scabbard work was done by Randy Black, who is the Paul Long of the Nihonto world, but in addition to producing superlative scabbards quite rapidly, Randy is a one-stop-shop for putting together a Japanese-style suite....he can create the handle core, do the wrap, make habaki...that's all I'm going to say about him.

Should have this in hand next week, well done Dan and Randy!!!

Very nice. I don't know much about Japanese style knives, but your new knife strikes a cord.

Superb piece buddy.....your Sword Tip is set apart from the others and is exceptional.

STevie, I always wanted to try that……….but I don't speak Japanese:rolleyes:

STeven,

Very cool package, Congrats !
What material(s) are the habaki and seppa ?

Doug

Love the look of the slotted blade. Bet it works wonders to reduce some weight off that knife. Full thickness at the spine almost to the tip...?

There is no habaki, I got Randy to agree in advance to make this style sheath without requiring one....the 3V material is both scratch and rust resistant to a certain degree, and we are not afraid of rust affecting this blade....it's not a takedown piece either....the handle is permanent.

The seppa is mokume gane, not sure of the material composition....the tsuba is titanium.

The shitodome are gold plated sterling silver from Fred Lohman.

Dan can do no wrong. His knives and swords are awesome:thumbup:
Dude knows exactly what makes for a good cutter.

What's the BL on this knife?
Aikuchi: Strictly a knife without a guard.
Just curious about the name.

Rolf,

I may be wrong but I think STeven was going for a fusion style piece.

Of course it is a fusion piece, it looks nothing remotely like Nihonto.......which it why I titled it "Aikuchi(aka sword tip)".

It isn't a kwaiken or kwaito, it's too short to be a legit tanto, and "aikuchi" though not accurate in the Japanese sense, is a name that many in the Western realm have used for a piece of this size.

Anyway, it's a cool blade.

Thanks, STeven.
Always enjoy and learn from your expertise.
This is a very cool addition to your collection.
