This is a custom knife from Dan Thornton that can only be called astonishing. I believe this was made in the 1980's. It was a part of a pair of knives in which the other was a small boot knife called the vindicator he made. The boot knife had the same wooden handle and sheath as this knife. I believe Dan was a member of the knife makers guild (based on Levines knife guide 4th edition) and I discovered the 1986 Blade annual spoke about Danny and his vindicator knife which is why I am presuming this one was made around the same time since it is made like the smaller boot knife. If I am correct, this would be the same Danny Thornton that Eddie White (Shadow Knives) worked under in the late 1970's.

It is beautiful and the grind on the blade looks incredible. The sheath is made from wood and is rather dark (I enhanced the lighting on the pic so you could see the grain) with nickel silver pins in it giving it a pretty spectacular look. I thought the wood might have been ebony but I am not certain. The curves to the blade and the handle are like an art form and his grind sort of reminds me of Jody Sampson from the early bali-song custom shop. This knife is one of only a couple from Dan that I have seen made in this fashion but the craftsmanship speaks of a GREAT talent.

The knife measures 8 3/4" long and the blade is right at 4" long. The thickness of the blade appers to be app 1/8". The knife has NEVER been sharpend and has only been handled a few times to remove it from its sheath. Everything is fitted very masterfully on this knife and it pains me to have to get rid of it.

I have dropped the price on this piece from $275 to $175. I will cover paypal fees and shipping to CONUS on this knife. Make offer if you don't think my price is fair.

This is not one of my knives. I do not know who made this knife. It looks like it's a stamped mark. I have never used a stamped mark like this one.

If you want to know more about Eddie White of Shadow Knives I am making a film about his career.

Check the preview out here.

Dan,

Just so you know, these were made by my dad. Last name also Thornton.

He is kind of a off-the-grid guy and has been doing a occasional batch of custom knives since well before I was born, 35-40 years. He's used the same stamp on most of his knives. Attached is a pic in case you come across it again.
