At first i thought the screws on my ZT300 were Allan but after it didn't work i realized they were torx. Found out from you guys the size and bought the T6 driver. Then got one screw out and the other is stripped. Tried pliers just to small to get a grip. Mechanics don't do well with tiny screws. Any advice ?

Edit: Never mind about the drilling, SPX is right, I didn't realize how small the T6 are until I checked one of mine.

Sometimes you can heat up the screw and hammer the next size up torx onto it. Then just replace the screw.

There are a few things you can do: 1- First thing I would do if in this situation, try a #7 torx driver and really apply some pressure. 2- If that didn't work I would take a flat edge screwdriver, pad it, and insert it in between the handle halves, as close to the screw as possible, and apply pressure while trying to unscrew the screw. 3- Anothet thing i have done is to use my dremel tool with a thin cut off wheel and CAREFULLY cut a groove across the screw head, then use a flat screwdriver to remove it. I have used all three methods and all three have worked at various times. One very important thing is to heat the screw to soften the loctite. I usually put the entire knife in a pot of boiling water for 5 to 10 minutes. You can also use a hairdryer or heat gun. Let us know how it goes.

Woah! Don't go drilling into your ZT! Try cutter's suggestion of applying a little pressure between the handles as you unscrew it after warming up the knife. A hairdryer will work to soften the locktite. If this doesn't work, call Kershaw! They can fix it without potentially causing other problems. 1-800-325-2891.

I was in the same situation you are in, I tried everything I could thing of (even super glueing a torx screwdriver to the screw), the thing that I found that works best is to try and unscrew it using the clip, rotate the clip around the screw. My clip wasn't set into the handle so it was possible to turn I am not for sure about the 301.

I've used a Dremel tool to cut a flat grind across the head of the bolts so I can use a common screwdriver, then I remove em and replace with new ones.

Fine. But we're talking about very small, partially recessed screw heads. One slip with the Dremel, and hello big cut in a G-10 slab.

Bfusmc, do what you want, but I'd really suggest sending it back for repair. They won't charge you anything, and they'll even clean it up, sharpen it, and ship it back free.

What a shame... such a great knife (don't own one but that's what it looks like), built like a tank, etc... and then with such crappy screws. I hope you get that screw out. I bet any of the methods described by the other members will work great. Good luck.

Mikel, you might want to read the entire post before you make comments.

As for the screws, they are the same material (410 stainless) as most of the liners are. Kershaw even makes their own screws so they can keep an eye on QC.

i am going to try many methods that i read from you guys at work tonight. But if i want to replace the screw were can i get a new screw from those are some tiny guys. I think i can get it out now but were do i get a replacement. If i don't think i can do it without damaging the g10 i will just call kershaw. Thanks a lot for all your help. Its very weird how the pivot screw is a diesel 3/8 nut then they have the tiny torx. Kinda funny

Try a micro flat head screwdriver...like you find in an
eyeglass repair kit. If it's not small enough just grind
it (the screwdriver) down until it fits.

If that doesn't work, Take DV's advice and let Kershaw
take care of it. That's to nice of a knife to muck up.

I just sent kershaw a email. So well see how long it takes them to reply. In the mean time i wont try any grinding might try jamming a small flat head in there but thats it dont want to be messing it all up. Thanks alot for all your help guys

Man you have luck like me... I always need customer service (or to place an order) on the weekend so I know it will take longer to get what I want.

Good call letting them fix it though, that is probably the best bet.

You will have a response so quick you won't believe it. Megan (customer service) gets back to me first thing next day( excluding weekends). Parts will take max. 10 days. It gets no better!

Careful with the dremel. They are fun. But wow can they (I mean me) destroy stuff with one.
