I guess the 100 dollar ryobi combo sander just wasn't cut for the job.

What are my choices for a new grinder? I want to try and stay on the cheap side, but not something that will fail.

DIY tools are really only good for use for quick 15 minute jobs twice a year. An industrial tool is well worth the investment.

I like my kalamazoo from Jantz. A lot of people have the cootes or grizzlies and like them too.

If you need something decent, quick, and cheap for flat grinding, check Sears (Craftsman). I got a 6 x 48" belt and disc sander with a 1hp motor there for about $200; and it still ran fine when I sold it to upgrade.

Hey all, that craftsman sander does run fine I'm the one who bought it, great for profiling & flat level grind..............thanks Jim

What does that model of grinder look like. I have a Sears refurb center close by and that sounds exactly what I need. Thanks.

It sad that every year the power in those tools just keeps going down :(
They try to rate 'em in "Sears HP", it seems, with 1SHP = half of honest, regular
HP.
