Daniel Defense Shallot - Article

I'm with these guys. I carry my Leatherman Charge with me all the time, so if I need serrations I have a full blade of them, which I've found more effective than a short run.

It's all good to have a preference and personal approach, but others do as well.

Frendz? :D

when a knife is an active part of your personal and (especially) professional life, you really know the value of the combo bladed folder that so many here dismiss. there is a reason that the DD Shallot has those serrations.

if i have a choice of versions, i usually opt for the combo edge.

I, for one, have used both types of blades in my personal and professional life. Serrations have their place, depending on the task. However, I find that maintaining a good edge while deployed is much easier on a blade without serrations.

And I think this DD Shallot is fugly.

Amazing how if anyone posts a opinion different than the clan here they get shouted down. I guess stating your thoughts and opinions are no longer welcome in this forum.

I would disagree with that. I actually thought about the DD knife when I saw it on Dave's list, but decided against it. I have many combo edge knives and love them...but they aren't as easy to sharpen when I'm not near a full system. Also, my current tastes have moved to some higher grade steels which aren't as easy to maintain in the field.

And in addition to the DD Shallot, I think the JYDII is ugly, too. It's all personal preference.

I think you have it wrong. I also think the wording wasn't the greatest in the response either. If you have an opinion why can't anyone else have theirs. I have not read anything that would be out of place or spiteful. I am opposite these guys and depending on what I plan on using the knife for I will get serrated or plain edge.

Calmate por favor.

I wouldn't take it so personally. I'm newer to this forum and have always felt welcome and never felt "shouted down". People are going to have their opinions and sometimes yours or mine might be in the minority.

PE is nice for sharpening, 2 step serrations can be good for something, not sure what as I dont like them much at all. The scalloped serrations are awesome, even when "dull" they tear stuff up. PE vs CE on a big old rope, CE as long as its not the 2 step. Same with plastic containers, I can control the cut better with the CE because I can saw and apply less pressure. I wish at times my 0301 saw CE but I hate how the CE's look vs the PE. Currently all of my EDC rotation is PE, I just realized this.

so, CE is the 2 step pointy serration used on this & my older Leek. And PE is the single step rounded serration used on my ZT0350TSST & newer Leek, right?

I got one of these knives in my latest order from Dave. I really like the blade shape, but wish the flipper part stuck out more. This particular knife is more difficult to open than any of my other flippers. The tip is very pointy with a drastic swedge that should even be capable of defeating soft body armor. I wish the handle weren't so slick. That's my biggest complaint on the Leek as well.

It would've made more sense for DD to go with a ZT instead of Kershaw, or maybe a Blur or Blur-like handle.

No. CE means Combo Edge. The old style serrations are the 2 step, and the newer design is the single scalloped. PE stands for Plain Edge.
