Daniel Winkler is a Master Smith and makes amazing period pieces. All his knives are hand forged from Damascus or 1084 or 5160. He makes such a tough blade, that demand from outdoors types and military personnel began to overwhelm him. So, he has created Daniel Winkler II. This is a semi-custom line that is not forged, but, stock removal. The blade steel is 5160 tool steel which has a reputation for superior toughness, and great edge holding and is gaining popularity with "hard use" knives.
The blade is 4 1/2" with Caswell non-glare finish and has an overall length of 8 7/8". It also has file worked notches in the thumb ramp and the handle is a very comfortably contoured black Micarta over tapered tang.
Kydex lined leather sheath has fur lining and is designed for horrizontal or vertical carry as well as left or right hand.
The overall fit and finish is what you would expect from a knife that is currently being supplied to the Naval Special Warfare unit.
