Danner Mountain Light II- The last boot you will need

Something must have changed, I used to wear through the soles of a pair of $150 Danners every 10 months or so.

I switched to Garmont boots and the two (different) pairs that I originally bought 6-7 years ago have just recently worn out.

I've been wearing those Mountain Lites for so long that my feet are formed to the boot shape. No break-in period required. :)

For me there's no other hiking boot.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but.

Does anyone know the difference between the Mountain Lights and the Mountain Light ll?

Or for that matter the Mountain Trails?

I think that the Mountain Trail is leather lined, sans gor-tex, but I see no real difference in the ML & ML lls, even the weight is listed as the same.

I have been a fan of Danners for many years, my Fort Lewis 400 gram boots are still going strong, although they do leak now. But considering they have been on my feet almost every day since 2007, I think that is pretty good.

In December I purchased a pair of Rain Forests used them through the rest of the winter and they still look basically new.

I used to use Cabelas/Meindel as hikers but I want to give the Danner hiking side a try. Truthfully my last pair of Meindels did not hold up well.

I know that there are lighter boots out there, but given the fact that both of my ankles have been broken and one spun around so my left foot was pointing backwards, i tend to lean from more ankle support.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

If I remember correctly the Mountain Light was the first version made long ago. Not sure what all improvements were involved, but one may have been the lace slots cut into the top of the tongue. I think if you see something today advertised only as Mountain Lights, they're likely just leaving off the "II" from the name.

Danners were my favorite boots of all time, until my feet got too big. I can't get them in my size (15EEEE). And that breaks my heart.

This same basic Danner boot has been around since the 70's and although there has been some changes, it appears to me that it is essentially the same boot. They still utilize a one piece full grain leather upper and the Vibram Kletterlift sole, but I know at one point they switched from being leather lined to using that fabric (Cambrelle?) lining and added the Gore-Tex membrane. My understanding is that is when the name changed from Mountain Trail to Mountain Light, but I have no idea why and when the II came to be. They are still made in the USA even though Danner now has many models made in China so I know that not the difference.

I have two pair, both over 10 years old but that is nothing in Mountain Light years. One pair I recently replaced the heels on and the other pair I will soon replace the entire sole.

Well,

I ordered a pair of Mountain Light lls, the girl from Danner said the twos were more geared to hardcore hiking and backpacking.

Thanks for the feedback!
