Hello you guys!
Great to find such a nice forum, with what very much seems to be such great members on it.
Well, anyway after subing to the yearly knifemaker, just thought I'd give it a go;
This piece represents about (but not limited to) CIRCA 500-600AD; this type of blade came in all sizes, the knife size (sax) and the sword/shortsword size (langsax/langsaex etc.) this one happens to be a long sword.
Blade properties:
36" long X 2 1/2"- wide X 1/8+ thick. This sword is somewhat heavy, and imbalanced; it sure acts like a Dark Age Viking sword; swinging it two-handed with all my might in mid air caused staggering, *chuckle*
It was forged from a low carbon steel bar with the following dimensions:
1" wide X 1/2" thick X 30" long
The process of using a good ol' sledgehammer, forge, and anvil increasing the carbon content, and making the blade very stiff, rigid, and springy. Also, since I used such a primitive steel, it makes the sword as close in properties to a Dark Age sword as possible (they were made of wrought iron, as you might know)
Pictured unsharpened, if it was sharpened, (which I can easily do upon request) you'd see a somewhat pointier tip, and a 1/4" silver streak going down the straight edge, this sword is unusual in as much as even though they are shaped somewhat like a conventional machete, they are sharpened on what would be the "back" of a machete.
Last but not least, I left the blue oxide coating on which naturally occurs from blacksmithing, it's a great looking, rust inhibiting coat, that is extremely hard to come off (from my experience)
Would make a great camping or hunting machete, albeit, expensive for a machete, so don't lose it!
This sword a hand and a half sword, can be used one or two handed.
$250 not including shipping; though shipping a sword in the 48 is cheap, international will vary, I'll try to get an accurate quote on it, though.
To add a bit of credibility, I have been creating primarily Dark Age weapons since the 90's, and I have two more swords just like this one, except somewhat more narrow, and shorter, also the handles are different.
Thank you!

Just thought I'd upload more images of my other work to prove I've actually done more than just this one; the top two aren't for sale, unfortunately. They're going on the ExcaliburBrothers.com website, for sale there, though upon request I can make some just like any of these three. The handles on the top two were carved from walnut harvested off my land:
