Dark Ops (folders with weight)

Strider AR/GB has some heft to it and I also agree with the Manix suggestion.

The Spyderco Manix is a good beefy folder if you can find someone who still has them in stock. They were discontinued......this year? I think? Might have been last year. At any rate, they're amazing and reliable with the ergonomics spydies are known for. Very solid, nice and heavy, too.

Spyderco has a sprint run of the Manix with the green G-10 handles available now, but probably not for long as it is a sprint run.

Dark Ops is simply the marketing company.

They also have quite an impressive optics line :jerkit:

I can't speak about their knives, but from personal experience I KNOW their scopes are manufactured in China under the "Vector" name, turrets replaced with target type, rebadged "Counter Sniper", and sold at a $200 premium.

I put one on in a LaRue mount on my "beater" AR. Lots of peripheral distortion, decent-at-best optics, and a turret design that has no place on a combat weapon.

YMMV, but that's what I know about their glass.

FireStrings85,

Welcome to the forums:).

Not only is everyone turned off by the Dark Ops lack of integrity and marketing, but there are some old photos of a folder opened up on these forums, where the quality was shown to be very poor. In fact, you asked about two knife companies that don't get much respect around here, though you'll find more supporters of Cold Steel products than Dark Ops.

Of the 2 you mentioned, I'd go with the Cold Steel AK-47. However, with the budget you probably have (considering the fact that you're looking at Dark Ops), I think it would be in your benefit to take a serious look at Extrema Ratio (the company Dark Ops is knocking off) and Zero Tolerance. Both of those companies have very high quality folders with heft.

It would help everyone else out if you gave us a price range and maybe some preferred features you might be looking for in a knife. Here's a quick list of features that if you described, you would get some pretty nice answers for (answer only if it matters):
-Price range
-blade length
-lock mechanism
-steel or features that you want out of your blade steel
-handle length
-handle material
-blade finish: satin, bead blast, coated, etc
-any other features: automatic, fast opening, one hand closing, assisted opening, manual, balisong, etc.

Knives I recommend:
Zero Tolerance: 0200, 300/301/302
Benchmade: Rukus, Mini Rukus, Skirmish
Spyderco: Manix, Chinook, Superhawk
Extrema Ratio: RAO, others
