Dark Ops Redux

Good review, Halbie! While I'm not a big fan of the company, I'm glad you're happy with your new knife.

Except for the unique name and the amounts of its properties not listed being listed, you're right, no mystery there.

In an article from Knives Illustrated, from last year, the writer claimed that Dark Ops steel (CTV2) was most likely a modified version of N690Co. How he came up with that, I do not know. For all we know, CTV2 could stand for Case's Tru-sharp Version 2.;):D

I'm just making a comparison to other blades I already own and use. I wouldn't even fathom a guess based on the description they provide, although it is probably a high carbon used for tactical blades.

Maybe, it stands for "Cuts Them Viciously Too".

Thanks. I'm tempted to buy one I can just destroy.

Someone on an other forum said I should try to stick it into a tree. Do you know how many $1000 knives would survive that test? None.

I think he's too busy in his mother's attic watching reruns of The Simpsons.

ctv2 steel actually more than likely is close to n690co steel cuz that is what Extrema Ratio uses. They seem to kinda copy a few things they do.

I guess I hate to bring this up from the depths.... but is "Dark Ops" really that bad???? I'm not really familiar with them..... I just picked one up, the "Paul Basil Shadow" fixed blade Tanto. Someone bring me 'up to speed', please?

Edge is weak when cutting things other than soft material, not really a steel alloy it's a cobalt alloy.
Weird grinds in some (most ) models look to impart stress risers on the blades, poor non functional designs.

I was walking through a knife show two weeks ago and happened on a guy hawking them he asked what knife I had in my hand it was a Mad Dog Taiho.
He said " yeah you need to get on of these the steel is better" Holding up the new "fighter" I told him that I would put my 1000.00 knife up against his and said my knife will cut your knife in half.. He stammered and then said it would not, I told him to find a vise and if his knife won I would buy him a new knife and if my knife won he would buy me a new knife.. He just looked away and said no thanks..

The product is overpriced for what you get which is a poorly designed knife and pretty advertising if you like etreme shock ammo buy one.

With all do respect, how old are you bro? I think someone challenging someone that their knife will cut through the other persons knife in a vice is even more Mall ninja then Dark ops itself.

Really? This from the forum's resident Cold Steel fanboy? I don't think swatbwana actually thought the guy would take him up on his offer; it was probably just to get him to stop spreading ignorance about knife steels.

Really? This coming from the forum's resident Cold Steel hater? One who just happens to show up in EVERY SINGLE coldsteel thread just to leave negative feed back..But I digress this is not about what company we like or not. I just think it's stupid to say things like that to a complete stranger and be confrontational in that way. I would have laughed in someones face and told them to go penetrate themselves if they said something stupid like that about my knife.
