Darkened HR2

Proper testing takes a enormous amount of time. I will see the first week of April if I can get to it. I honestly think enough testing has been done on Busse from very reputable testers(cliff stamp and following) and Knife makers(Nathan).

You will not chip a Busse at 15dps without a micro bevel on the bardest African woods from the little testing I have done but a can however go more in depth on the Apex durability regarding fatigue etc on different medias. But I have done this before and it takes days not hours. Thats aslo why I do not get into arguments with people, they just don't do enough detailed testing and when they argue with me I do not reply cause I can immediately see they haven't done testing properly which kinda made me decide not to do it anymore. Example, Somone will say" I like Elmax better then A8mod or 5160 for my large knives" immediately I refrain from going into a discussion.

A few things however that stand out about INFI

1Sharpening ability
2Apex toughness
3Rust resistance
Yes, I was refering to the finish, not INFI. I know the durability of that.

Very Nicely Done, Number 41...!

So that Shinobi Kydex South African Sheath is set-up with a Left Hand Draw...

I take it You're a Southpaw? (A Man in his Right Mind...?)

Yes at 7 o clock reverse grip. 😀

Yes at 7 o clock reverse grip. 😀
"At 7 o'clock reverse grip" is where I carry Thudder (my 8" Scrap Yard DB-321) on my Snap Strap, Drop-Leg D-Ring swivel affair.
Good Call !!
She sits Just Perfect at that Location. Hardly know she's there, even when sitting down.
I also crafted her Leather Sheath with pockets outside the stitching for sharpener & firestarter. Designed with large sleeves on her back side straddling her balance point, for stable Scout-Style Carry, if desired. I like Options... Since this is Your thread about Your Awesome Bluing Blade-work, I will spare posting links to photos; perhaps I'll start another thread if I think peeps will even care to see my amateur work.
But it got me thinking: You could do something similar with that Shinobi Kydex Sheath, with all them eyelet holes: Affix a field pack with sharpener & firestarter right on your HR-2 Sheath, so you're Good to Go at all times...! There's nothing like the feeling of being prepared.
Hey, did you put up a video or two on You-Tube chopping with that HR-2 ?? Along with that Cold Steel uber-tough folder? I thought that was you, anyway, if memory serves me right....
If So, Well Done! She's a Keeper of an All-Around Blade; And Considerable Chopper that is worth her weight in Gold! The HR-2 Looks Surprisingly similar/nearly-Identical to the latest Steel Heart configuration: the "Nuclear Fusion Forsaken Steel Heart in Comp~ Finish." Comparing the photos, there are but few distinctions... So the HR-2 is Really "the Newest Incarnation of the Steel Heart." (Climber Clif says so: it's gotta be true.)

Post pics bud.... I would like to see them

Thank You for your interest, Number 41 !

Here are Photos, as requested...

1st Photo shows Front Side of the Leather Sheath for Thudder, with tight Utility Pockets for Dual Grit Sharpener (400g/600g) above & Firestarter below; they fit so well that I cannot shake them out, inverted, even with my climbing might! But they are also girth-hitched via Lanyards to the Sheath for added security.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1I1TwCfdj8hvWuER_uVHytBW6x1A_7xZC/view?usp=sharing

You can see from the leather molding-folds that the knife sits deeply into the Sheath, over an inch of the Res-C handle is in the Sheath's Blade Pocket. I put that snap on really tightly, too, so it's Snug!
The drawing next to it is my "Master Plan" on how I wanted it laid out, plus my still-to-be-completed Carving into the Leather right over the Blade area, of a Climber on a Rock in the foreground, with background of Forest, Lake, Sailboat, Waterfall dropping from the Forested Hills, Sun Peeking over Mountains, and 3 birds in the sky overlooking it all. Plus the Name "Climber Clif-Bar" Stamped into it Vertically; If someone "borrows" this Unit, it will be known that She ISN'T Theirs; Ha!

2nd Photo shows Back Side with Wide Leather Sleeves to straddle the balance point for really secure Scout-Style Carry, if I wish to avoid the drop-leg vertical carry for any reason. You can see that it also can be carried vertically Without the Drop-Leg Strap on the D-Ring, for I folded the Leather back and stitched it perpendicular as well, so the belt will fit through in either direction. If I'd been thinking more clearly, I would have stitched it with an "X" pattern and saved a bit of Leather; But, Oh Well; Sleeves it is...!

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CB971O9h8BS7N_LyVw_DrgyTs4x9CkA1/view?usp=sharing

The double snap-strap on the D-Ring carries really well, tho'. I like to experience both when I make an item, just to see how each carry method rides.
I'm quite pleased with the results.
(I believe I got this line from the old A-Team show: "I like it when a plan comes together...!")

By the way: You may be asking: What's with all them Holes in odd places? Well, this is a "Redeemed" piece of Leather: I Re-Purposed it from what it used to be when I bought it from an antique store down the hill. It was labeled "Potato Masher" when I bought this Great Piece for a mere 2 bucks! I guess they used to mash potatoes on leather "back in the day?" You got me, I'm only guessing from the label on the tag! I just made use of the pre-existing holes as needed; the extras don't bother me in the least.

The Tan Leather Pack below the Unit is my Sharpening Field-Pack: I have 20 differing Grits from 150-10,000 in that little guy: ~ That should be enough for "most of my sharpening needs" 😜 ~
If Not, My larger pack can hold Bigger Sharpener tools; as say, the Sharpmaker, which doesn't fit into the smaller one. . .

A Pair of Bonus Pics...!

I also simultaneously (same week!) wrestled with some Kydex over my propane gas stove in the kitchen to form an uber-tight Sheath (No fallout movement even when inverted and also shaken with all my climbing might), with a Boot-laced-on Pack for its own Sharpener & Firestarter for My House Mistress (Known to Common Mortals as the Chophouse)... Ingenuity with Hot Pads as Squeezers saved me from hot-finger-syndrome; well, mostly; Ha! I have no specific tools to work Kydex, just Leather-working tools, so I made it work, and work well ! I can carry this Baby inverted on my shoulder rig... Heh, Heh, Heh...

This is the First time I've ever put a Water Hole in the Bottom of anything Kydex I've made: It was far easier to do than anticipated, and functions just Great! You can Zoom in to see that from both/either side/s.
This piece of Kydex was Also Re-Purposed, hence the multiple pre-existing holes as well. No Biggie.
These pics don't show the Boot-laced Nylon Field-Pack, because the pics were taken before I found my line.
I may switch to Paracord, but I "kinda like" the Two-Tone Gold & Brown Cord:
It gives it that "I Live On a Bootlace Budget" look, that Women Really Adore...

(Well, this could explain my perennial single-hood; but Hey: I Got Me My Blades...! )

Oh Yes, A Quick PS = You probably Wonder Why I call my DB-321 the pet name of Thudder, referenced above. Besides the fact that "I'll handle this project with my DB-321" sounds way too impersonal for a knife of this Caliber; Have you ever noticed how most knives make a TING! TING! TING! sound when struck with another piece of metal? Like, A Dinner-Time Bell !? Well, this Transversion-Wave-Enhanced 52100 Premium Ball-Bearing Steel doesn't make that Noise: Nope: She just THUDS, with Ultimate Toughness... She's a Thudder... Oh Yeah...!

Hopefully, I've put a Smile upon your face, and a Laugh in your belly...
Enjoy!

That kydex looks good... well made.

Thank You, Number 41, for your kind words...
I worked with ultimate patience on these projects, in hopes that they will last a lifetime or three, come Hell or High Water.
The Kydex turned out Soo much better than I anticipated. At first, I made it TOO tight, so I put a "little" extra space in it; and now, it's as perfect in fit as I can imagine a sheath to be. I've spent upwards of $140 for a Kydex Sheath with a Trigger Release -- for my double-sided 8" Kerambit Defender, in Mossy Oak Pattern from Primal Options, that fits curved around my hip; it's Soo Nice -- and I'm really Glad I didn't go that route on this one. No offense to any Professional Sheathmaker, for I will no doubt spring for others later in life, if need be; but I really like how my stuff has turned out & feel I can customize them far easier. Easier on the budget, too. As you may know, just Buying a Busse Blade is a Major Expense in life for some of us.
Springing for a David Brown or Melody McBride Sheath, as Great as they are, is sometimes too much for this poor boy. My Enhanced Satin Jack (aka P & L Statement: -) came with a David Brown Kydex Sheath, but Without a way to attach it to anything; So I had to make & fasten a Kydex Clip to ride on my belt at a slight angle; Scout Style, which required installing another hole in the Kydex sheathing as well. Works Great now. His Sheath is Flawless, don't get me wrong. Fits that Beastie Better than ANY Glove I've worn.
I've a Leather Sheath for Vertical Carry, too for her, because I love my carry options; I adapted from another application & installed a Strong Snap instead of the lame Velcro it had. Can't go wrong with multiple carry options, even if it means another sheath. I suppose the Pro~ Sheathmakers would agree on that point...!
I'm a firm believer in the Axiom:
~ Buy Quality, and Only Cry Once. ~
Yet if I find myself in a place that I cannot buy Quality, I make it myself and put in the Quality.
So far, so Good!

How has the finish held up after that last round of chopping and batoning?

How has the finish held up after that last round of chopping and batoning?
Dude pretty good... it holds up so much better then sr101. Sr101 blues really quickly but comes off easily. Infi takes hours to darken but holds up great. And the nice thing is you can touch it up if needed.

Excellent Shot of that Hell Razor!
We can Zoom in to see the Bluing is still doing Just Fine after All Them Chops...
Thanks for posting a Great Photo...!
