I was thinking about dyeing my micarta handles black on my Esee 6, I was a little worried about it bleeding on my hands or clothing.

So I used some Trondak U-40 Cork Seal on them, now they have a wet look and feel great, almost rougher, just thought I would share this with you...

I dyed the handles on my RC-3 Mil black using RIT dye. I boiled about 3 cups of water, poured about 1/3'd of the RIT dye package in the boiling water & mixed it good. Then dropped the handles in for about 30 minutes while the water cooled. Once I pulled them out, I dropped them into cold water for a couple of minutes. The cold water sets the dye, and it won't rub off. Does a great job.

Your handles look good though. I've never heard of the stuff you used. But if it works, it works and that is all that matters.

Got some pics?

I would love to see them...

I'm thinking about getting a 3 or 4 with the custom scales from The Knife Connection. Some of the combos you can choose are great looking.

Apparently, the warranty is handled by TKC on those knives but I'm not sure why.

Almost forgot, your handles look great. I love black handles on the ESEE's, it just looks right.

TKC Warranties the handles not the knife, Esee still covers the blade....

Nice looking dye job man. I like the way the green spacers really pop. It's like you've got laser beams in the handle!

God bless,
Adam

God i love the 6..... Fav of the Bunch.....:D
looks good and nice badge.

I really like the 'blacker' handles. If I get crazy I might have to disassemble all of my knives, stripping the screws in the process, and dye the handles black also. The greyish black color is cool, but I like the deeper black color a lot.

Me to.........

I find myself agreeing with you on most subjects, except for serrations. You should come over to the darkside with me and embrace the serrated blade.

Did the Rit dye go through the Cork Seal you used well? Also, what exactly is that Cork Seal stuff?

never heard of cork seal.
I dyed my izzy 2 handles with leather dye (spirit based, not oil or water based) and a q-tip.
didn't even take them off the knife.
rinsed under cold water and blotted dry with a paper towel.

Hey Flexxx! The handles look great.

Another method I found works is that just by using the knife, the handles will turn almost black.

I've had my RC4 since they were first introduced, and the handles look almost black.
