Darkened Micarta

I find myself agreeing with you on most subjects, except for serrations. You should come over to the darkside with me and embrace the serrated blade.

Did the Rit dye go through the Cork Seal you used well? Also, what exactly is that Cork Seal stuff?

I sanded off the cork seal then dyed them, cork seal is made for fishing rods
it prevents them from aging, its pretty cool stuff and works excellent on wood and other similar items with pores.

I will join the darkside but without serrations...;)
I just have no use for them....

sweetness! the rit dye works really well. welcome to the dark side...well, to the enlightened side anyway :D those attracted to the dark side of the force will opt for the beckers which come in all-black to begin with

p.s. yes, i know this is such a geek post...but i've been drinking and well, not very many women surf here anyways...burrrp.

No worries, I got plenty of Becker knives.
well maybe not, I can always use more.....

Me love some BK

Looks great Flexxx, your handles and mine will have a different appearence dyed. My handles are the canvas micarta, and yours are the linen micarta.

I actually prefer the linen like yours, but still would have dyed them black had they been on mine.

Good job.

Thanks, but I thought I better try the RIT.
Came out excellent.
And I got my badge today....

Really great looking job Flexxx!

never heard of cork seal.
I dyed my izzy 2 handles with leather dye (spirit based, not oil or water based) and a q-tip.
didn't even take them off the knife.
rinsed under cold water and blotted dry with a paper towel.

I'm very interested in this tecnique...please could you post a pic showing the results...?

this was a coat of oxblood dye - which ended up an odd purple, overdyed with USMC black - it's a lot darker in "normal" light.
