what can you use?

so far, ive considered...

1.) cold blue (not very durable)
2.) read about something called "Tool black"? cant find it
3.) parkerizing. (but how do you keep the park from coating the edge?)
4.) some say that etching the blade with acid can help prevent rust and make it a grey color?

thanks

1-OXPHO-BLUE from Brownells very good blueing
2-Tool Black from MSC
3-Just resharpen the edge
4-White Vinger

I still have my first high carbon steel knife of 30+ years
if it's mirror polished it only takes a little care with an oil
a Little deer fat won't hurt either before getting too deep into the work..:)

Parkerizing is forming a iron-zinc phosphate layer on the blade, it gives fair protection but increases friction a lot so it might be used on a fighter but not on a whittler.

I send my parts to Mel Doyes Gun Shop. He uses a deep blueing salt that doesnt get hot enough to change the temper in the blades. Very nice dark blue. Email me if you want his #

Jantz Supply sells a low temp bluing salt, 260 degress F. Will not effect the temper in the blade.
