....because we cannot talk in the for sale thread.

This is in reference to http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=512191

Darkfin, you mentioned about the lack of "I'll take it" and how you don't like to use it. When the seller states in the thread that people who get the knife must state "I'll take it" and you wrote PM sent, then you should not have rights to the purchase unless you do that. When people state that they will take it in the thread then they are committing to the sale in front of the whole bladeforums community and to back out would look very bad for them. PM sent means an enquiry and it is easy to back out of the sale. I was particularly annoyed at the way this sale went, and so was the other bloke, particularly cause I was after a black yojimbo for a while and it was coming from NZD which is easy for me to get seeing as I am in Australia. I followed the rules of the listing and didnt get the knife. Anyway, the whole reason I bring this up is because it was discussed in the for sale thread and I wasnt able to answer there. It is nothing personal or anything like that. Having said that, Daniel L should have enforced the rules he set in the beginning of his for sale post.

While I understand you being upset & thinking something was "amiss", I'm pretty certain that the seller was "honest" in that he honored the first "I'll take it" for his knives. Whether that was in a PM or posted, I think most if not all of us honor the "first" response based on time stamp (Whatever medium it was through; email, PM, or posted).

I can't count the times I've posted "I'll take it" only to read that someone beat me to it. I think the main question is, who was first to write "I'll take it." I don't mean the first to post it, but the first one to, again, either email, PM, or post it. First is first.

I believe Darkfin explained himself, but it sounded like he PMed "I'll take it" before anyone else PMed or posted, & then he posted it. From the looks of the thread, he posted "PM sent" before you posted anything.

I watched that for sale thread, but realized I was too late. Like I said, I've lost out on being first to someone who PMed or emailed before I did, & I've PMed or emailed before others have posted, & got the product.

You should be thankful that the seller was honest & honored the first "I'll take it", as no one can see the PMs or emails.

Sorry about what you felt you lost, but I learned a while ago that first (through whichever medium) should be first.

CLO1 - Darkfin definitely got in first, with a PM, no doubt about that. I guess my point above all else is that saying "I'll take it" commits the person in public in a way that would look pretty bad if you were to pull out. Anyway not a huge issue but I wanted to add a comment but didnt want to put it in the for sale thread. Definitely not trying to create some sort of For Sale standard, as people can sell to whoever they want to, but if the seller puts up rules then people should have to follow them.

The system works fine. The seller posts that the first 'I'll take it' gets it to tell people that early inquiries do not reserve a place in line to buy.

He can still accept an emailed offer ahead of a later publically posted offer. He also doesn't have to sell to someone he doesn't want to deal with or to explain this, either.

I fully agree with Irezumi

Seller set their rules and as buyers me and irezumi followed them only to be told later by the seller my bad I made a mistake i already sold the knife to someone else who didn't follow my own rules.

Pm sent means many different things and doesn't mean a knife has been bought.
- I need more pics
- Cash Offers
- Trade Offers
- Questions about the knife

I'll take it in the thread means I will buy it now with all the information given to me and committ so stuff like this doesn't happen.
