Darkops Knives now has some pics up, at least for the fixed blades. Not bad, but not really my style either, although I really like the blood grooves :D. I wonder what the prices are going to be like.

Josh, I'm not in to this stuff, but haven't blades been able to defeat various ballistics vests?

I noticed one style was basically a bayonet.

Munk, I'm not positive, but I want to say that some (many?) bullet proof vests are not designed to stop knives, ice picks, etc. There are "stab-proof" vests on the market now. I tried to do a brief search, but didn't find anything. I'm pretty sure the topic has been discussed here on Bladeforums before. Hopefully somebody who knows more about this will chime in.

I believe it costs more and is heavier if the protection is for both gun and knife.

Well, since most Comm-bloc body armor is made from recycled airplane skins, I don't think these Dark Ops blades will have any problems. If I'm not mistaken, the strategically placed blood grooves aid with body armor penetration as well.

Is my memory fading or does that thing look like the navy seal shark or whatever that was called.... you know, the seal pup, then the seal and then the shark.....or am I way out in left field. It just looks really familiar.

The "square-tooth saw" is pretty funny.
Maybe that should be changed to "gratutiously multiple wire-breakers" of something--I don't think it could "saw" through a piece of hard cheese.

"IR Invisible" finish sounds a bit hokey too, not to mention pointless, since the person with the knife is emitting copious IR radiation.

Overall impression....*zzzzzzzzzzz*

Yeah, but just think about all the devastation and exsanguination that invisible blade is going to be delivering while the Comm-bloc baddies are busy paying attention to the IR signature of the dark operator holding it.

You mean attending to exercising the capability of their high velocity deanimation-capable multiple projecitile delivery systems?

Not a cho on a single one of 'em.

:D

They look ok to me. Similar to a lot of production knives. That stainless steel with tungsten sounds like something that would be difficult to sharpen. I have enough trouble with Bura's stuff.

Gin, I bet the SOG Seal knife 2000(?) and Seal Pup, and the Tigershark are the knives you are thinking of.

it will be halarious when the blade steel turns out to be something like aus8 or 440c....

but then again, if they do have "the best steel ever", i may just have to pick one up for those moments when i have to slash my way through a mob.... it happens to the best of us....

but hey, if they are at least decent knives, then i can take the balls out hype style :), it is funny, and the blade style is interesting...

The DarkOps knives make me think of the Ferrari/FordGT40 look-alike fiberglass kit bodies that used to go on top of a VW Beetle frame and engine. A whole lot of flash but not delivering a whole lot of what's promised underneath.

Besides, somehow I don't think they are going to sell many to the folks in Oz, given their hype.

Maybe they do have something going in spite of the hype, but I'll wait and see. I was favoranbly surprised with the Buck Nighthawk.

However, I wouldn't want to be DarkOps if Cliff Stamp gets ahold of their knives. Granted that he could break an anvil, he does call them as he sees them. ( As Mad Dog found out some time back. )

Vests are dsigned to stop blunt fast moving objects. Most are completely vulnerable to sharp things. I have several fixed blades that can easily penetrate any standard vest, and strong Tanto points are especially good at it.

last year I read about some idiot who had just spent several hundred on Second Chance body armor, which is great stuff, challenging a friend to attack and stab his chest as hard as he could to prove how invulnerable he was. One stab was all it took and the guy buried the knife up to the hilt in the guy, right through his fancy new vest.

Oops...

`body armor has ratings of what it will stop.
most come with a so called "trauma plate" of steel and ceramic that covers the central area/center of mass.
sure you can stab through 20 layers of ballistic nylon and kevlar, but it aint easy.
especially if hes shooting at you while you try to cut.
