Darkops Pt. II--Now With Pics

The DarkOps knives make me think of the Ferrari/FordGT40 look-alike fiberglass kit bodies that used to go on top of a VW Beetle frame and engine. A whole lot of flash but not delivering a whole lot of what's promised underneath.

Besides, somehow I don't think they are going to sell many to the folks in Oz, given their hype.

Maybe they do have something going in spite of the hype, but I'll wait and see. I was favoranbly surprised with the Buck Nighthawk.

However, I wouldn't want to be DarkOps if Cliff Stamp gets ahold of their knives. Granted that he could break an anvil, he does call them as he sees them. ( As Mad Dog found out some time back. )

SOG Seal 2000, the Reeve GB, the Harsey designed Gerber Silver Trident, the Lone Wolf Harsey Tactical folder, and the Nighthawk for that matter; those are some of the knives that are carried by the Seals and other special units. This guy is trying to break into that market with what seems to me to be a lot of combat double-speak BS.

Also, with the current crop of great steels like CPM-S30V and the 154CM / ATS-34 family of vacuum melted steels, and great stuff like D2, I seriously doubt he has anything much better, and wouldn't be surprised if Seth was right and it was just some 440 variant.

The biggest BS that gets me is the garbage about the "Strategically placed blood grooves control blood spray in covert deanimation activities." Horse$^&t. Other than the (poorly designed) original Ka-Bar which has a big blood groove designed into it, most manufacturers don't put in a blood groove because it weakens the blade. It may be useful in a 16" bayonet so the blade doesn't stick, but it's essentially useless in a fighting knife, and doesn't do jack for "controlling blood spray." So you cut a guys throat, he's not going to shower you with blood because of the "strategically placed groove?"
I really hate that kind of babble. :barf:

They are nice looking knives, and I'm sure they will do what he says, but the extravant copy is what bugs me. $ for $ and feature for feature, a Nighthawk or the new Ka-Bar Impacts in D2 or any of the Becker knives, or any of the knives I mentioned above will probably do you better, and for sheer strength any of the Reeve one-piece or the Stryder fixed blades will punch through all the car doors, aircraft skins and "comm-spec body armor" you can dredge up. :)

Regards,

Norm

On the General Discussion forum someone pointed out that the blades appear to mimic the Extrema Ratio knives only with a different handle.

Someone more capable on the computer posted the Darkops knives next to the Extrema Ratio knives in that thread. In my estimation they look awfully close. You may not see it that way.

:barf: :barf: :barf:

If I were being deployed nowadays and wanted a conventional style knife, I'd kill two birds with one stone by leaving my issue bayonet at home and buying the new USMC issue M-10 bayonet/fighting knife. I would also have a 15" Ang Khola or a 16.5" Chiruwa AK in my ruck.

The USMC are now probably issuing the best designed bayonet currently in standard use in the world. It was designed with a lot of input from the USMC martial arts instructors. The bayonet had to pass the test course not only on the rifle, but it also had to pass the test as a combat knife.

Rusty, I could be wrong, but I believe someone said that these knives/this company/whatever is run/owned by same guy who imports the Extrema Ratio knives into the states here.

Now THAT is interesting. I may be wrong on last comment, but just went to their site, and noticed something VERY glaring on front page. Site is copyrighted to Pyramont. For those gun nuts among us, sure y'all have heard the horror stories of Robert Hesse and some of his products. Well if you go to his latest web page over at http://www.vulcanarmament.com Look at the copyright notifcation on the front page, then compare it to the Dark Ops knives page. VERRRRRY Interesting.

Just remember, friends don't let friends buy Hesse. ;)

good lookin'....but I usually shy away from 'tall order claims'.....

"best"...."finest"....etc.

Do you have to have Flash Player to access that page? If so for some reason I can't get it too download. Too much protection up I guess. I tried disableing my firewalls and still couldn't get it too download so I'm guessing it's my Spyware blaster or other similar protection preventing it. It says something about being an ActiveX program or something?
Any suggestions besides uninstalling my spyware etc and then reinstalling?
Don't know if it would be worth it?:( :grumpy:

Never mind. I was trying to access the link at the bottom instead of clicking on the large pic. Doh! ;) :D

Not a lot to see, really. Just some mass produced knives. I don't think the blade shapes are new. The guard and handles are "unique" though.

Order one of my deanimation splatter guard upgrade kits instead. ;) :)

Didn't think about it, but yeah, you prrobably do need flash for that page Yvsa. But don't bother disabling anything, it's really not worth it. Imagine the same type of garbage and aggrandizement except for guns instead of knives. :)

As to the blood grooves.  Is everyone else seeing what I'm seeing?

From the pix I'm seeing a triangular groove cut into the base of the blade instead of a fuller or fullers. Fullers create an I-beam effect actually making a blade lighter and stronger but these triangular grooves cut sideways at the base of the blades are definite stress risers and IMO would weaken the blade considerably!
I damn sure wouldn't buy one just because of that and any self respecting half knowledgable Special Forces guys would know the same thing I would believe.
Looks like the same hype the Edge Company put out a few years back IMO.:(
Although I do have to say the Edge Company's little crossbow pistol was a lot of fun. I bought one for my grandson.:D

Bruise- if you'll license the production, I still want a cup-hilt khukri special project. ;) :p :D
