Rusty said:The DarkOps knives make me think of the Ferrari/FordGT40 look-alike fiberglass kit bodies that used to go on top of a VW Beetle frame and engine. A whole lot of flash but not delivering a whole lot of what's promised underneath.
Besides, somehow I don't think they are going to sell many to the folks in Oz, given their hype.
Maybe they do have something going in spite of the hype, but I'll wait and see. I was favoranbly surprised with the Buck Nighthawk.
However, I wouldn't want to be DarkOps if Cliff Stamp gets ahold of their knives. Granted that he could break an anvil, he does call them as he sees them. ( As Mad Dog found out some time back. )
SOG Seal 2000, the Reeve GB, the Harsey designed Gerber Silver Trident, the Lone Wolf Harsey Tactical folder, and the Nighthawk for that matter; those are some of the knives that are carried by the Seals and other special units. This guy is trying to break into that market with what seems to me to be a lot of combat double-speak BS.
Also, with the current crop of great steels like CPM-S30V and the 154CM / ATS-34 family of vacuum melted steels, and great stuff like D2, I seriously doubt he has anything much better, and wouldn't be surprised if Seth was right and it was just some 440 variant.
The biggest BS that gets me is the garbage about the "Strategically placed blood grooves control blood spray in covert deanimation activities." Horse$^&t. Other than the (poorly designed) original Ka-Bar which has a big blood groove designed into it, most manufacturers don't put in a blood groove because it weakens the blade. It may be useful in a 16" bayonet so the blade doesn't stick, but it's essentially useless in a fighting knife, and doesn't do jack for "controlling blood spray." So you cut a guys throat, he's not going to shower you with blood because of the "strategically placed groove?"
I really hate that kind of babble. :barf:
They are nice looking knives, and I'm sure they will do what he says, but the extravant copy is what bugs me. $ for $ and feature for feature, a Nighthawk or the new Ka-Bar Impacts in D2 or any of the Becker knives, or any of the knives I mentioned above will probably do you better, and for sheer strength any of the Reeve one-piece or the Stryder fixed blades will punch through all the car doors, aircraft skins and "comm-spec body armor" you can dredge up.

Norm
