Beauty is, of course, in the eye of the beholder. And this "beholder" thinks that Darrel Ralph makes some of the most awesome custom folders on the planet.

Long story short: I wanted a Cuda Maxx but because of the Camillus strike (which is now over), I couldn't find one at a decent price. So I went to Darrel to get a price on a custom. Out of my range ($1050 base price for the 5.5" [non-assist]) so all I can do is look. I thought others might enjoy a look also, so here is the link to his website. They are worth a look, IMHO, so if you're inclined, feast your eyes.

I had a DR. Once you get it in your hands, you'll see even more attention to detail that the pictures cannot convey. His knives are meticulous in attention to detail.

My Darrel Ralph designed Camillus CUDA EDC is, without question, my favourite folder by far.

i may be wrong, but is the EDC licenced to another maker ? i saw and ad in blade, it had CF overlays with a relieved tribal design.

the maxx 5.5" is $1050?? wow, i have a 5.5 maxx and a 4" mini maxx, both great knives by the way, i have carried the 5.5 quite a bit, the F&F on darrels stuff is second to none imho.

but ya know, all in all the cuda maxx was a really accurate rendition of the maxx, the stilletto version was awfull close to the real thing, it wasnt the same of course, but pretty darned close,

darrels also a great guy to deal with,

A.G.Russell has a folding Sting and a spearpoint variant of it that are essentially production mini-Maxxes.

Do not overlook Combat Elite knives, they're the collaboration between Ryan Wilson and DDR. Great knives, great prices.

That version of Combat Elite Knives is no more. DDR & Ryan are no longer together. Wilson Tactical is now carrying the Combat Elite line. And it is not the same as when DDR & Ryan had Combat Elite.

I happen to LOVE DDR's custom knives!! DDR is one of my favorite makers!! He is a really nice man too.

Well, since this thread I made an opinion on Darrel Ralph.

I do like his designs however, but I wouldn't buy anything from him. Not because of a mistake, but because of the way he behave(s/d).

The knives I've seen (only online, unfortunately) have been very beautifully constructed, but I just can't get into the shape of his knives (for the most part).

I'm very sorry about that thread. It got out of hand while I was not looking. It is a failure on my part.
Unfortunately, there are some people whom I refer to as "forum sharks." If there is a drop of blood in the water, they can smell it from a mile away and come running to stir the pot and try and get their bite of whomever is being attacked. Many of the people who join this sort of pile-on have no knowledge of the issue. They just like to see the fight, the drama of it. That can be very frustrating to the person who suddenly finds himself under attack from a dozen people who seemingly cme out of nowhere and who really know nothing about the problem. Mr. Ralph handled it a bit poorly in that thread, true. But I wouldn't hold that against him. Instead, look at all of the threads he has participated in over the years at bf.c and let that whole body, not just one bad thread, influence you.

Again, I ask the whole site to accept my appology for my negligence in that thread. I failed in my duties and you can see here the damage that has resulted from my failure.

As a small token of my appology, allow me to offer this thread a pair of Darrel Ralph Mad Maxx III's

The filigree is by Zaza Revishvili.

And it wouldn't be complete as a post from me if I didn't offer at least one balisong.

Yes Mr. Ralphs knives are something special to see. I thought I was one of the few that goes to his site to gawk at his knives. Maybe sometime in the future I will get one. Great looking knives. I am sure they are worth every penny.

DDR knives have been my favorites since I first saw his website. In my opinion his Maxx series knives are the best looking and the most well made knives you can buy.

Darrel's knives are awesome! I've got three- 2 MM's, both 3 inch and a small apogee. I actually bought the apogee used and Darrel offered to fix it up to new condition quickly and without charge. One of the MM's has been in my carry rotation for a few years now and it's never let me down. Great knives and a great guy to boot.

As far as his reputation goes. He has been thoroughly professional to me. After buying the knife, he phoned me and asked for feedback. '

Later, I sold the knife and he saw my ad, then phoned me and asked what i disliked about the knife. Which was nothing really. I just buy and sell knives.

Point is, he is watchfull and concerned about his product.

I also like DR's designs. When I first saw his Gunhammer folders, I was wowwed. Alas, I can't afford any custom knives.

Hmm, just noticed his MAXX Q Production folder is only $199...how's that one? Is it made with the same attention to detail as his pricier customs? Hmm...where can I scrounge $199??...hmm.

Drano

That knife would be the "EDC Tribal" which is the first offering by DDR's son, knifemaker Ryan Bailey.
