I have yet to purchase one of Darrel's knives. I'd like to know if anyone is an owner and/or familiar with his knives and is willing to give me the low-down on how they rate as hard use, or as our pal NutnFancy would say their "POU." Pros and cons welcomed.

I also don't really understand his locking mechanisms, hey appear to be framelocks with scales covering them or something like that - I don't know how else to describe it??? (Gunhammer models)

Could they be compared perhaps to Hinderer, Strider, Sebenza for example. I'd like to know as much as I can from member owners before making a buy and finding out the folder isn't what I expected.

Perhaps there are models that are more geared toward hard use or are more heavily built?

Any information is welcome. :)

Why would you not just post in his sub forum here or check on the web for knife details? There is a ton of information on this topic.

Not sure about NF, he seems to prefer tiny folders and the "dude", "tactical" gets a bit nauseating within the scope of a 1 hour long video of incessant rambling.

The Gunhammer 2.0 have Ti liner/subframe locks, if you google it, there are pictures scattered all over the web:

HTM Subforum

This is the Darrel Ralph site, where the custom orders are placed.

2 Reasons RevDevil - many of the sub-forums are loaded with fanboys that have a heavy bias toward the forum owner. Also, the exposure in this forum is huge and can draw a lot more potential feedback.

Sorry if that ruffles your feathers but I thought about it before I posted and this foum seemed to make more sense for unbiased feedback. :)

Darrel regularly answers questions on the HTM board. It's not exactly loaded with fanboys from what I've seen, however, when you try and make a comparison betweeb Hindeer knives, CRK, and others that is where the ruffling can begin.

It's not so much brand competition as the "hard use" factor I was looking for. Thus I mentioned those as they represent 2 levels of hard use to me. I'll close this after a bit in case you want to respond. It doesn't seem like there's much info here. The sub forum is quiet as well. I'll give it a try over there. ;)

Darrel is good about talking through this sort of thing. His designs are inherently heavy duty. I remember when the Camillus CUDA Maxx came out, it was like a giant Sebenza, absolutely rock solid, and the three I got were only production collaborations. I got a custom Maxx dagger afterwards so I can see where that solidity comes from. I also have a small EDC model, which has gotten a lot of use, and is xtremely strong. The locks are perfect: very tight lockup, no slippage, do not overtravel even on a hard opening.

I say give him a call. You can find his number in one of the latest posts in the HTM forum. He'll talk with you about design philosophy.

I have a HTM Maxx 5.5 Manual tapped for tip up (waved) by DDR. While the tip isn't exactly "tough" it wasn't intended as such.

Fit, function, etc...I don't think you will go wrong. I have handled a Gunhammer and it seems, without testing, tough as nails.

Great maker, nice guy, no nonsense. Give him a ring or email.
