Darrel Ralph Maxx mq-1a

At one point there was some talk about a Bowie style blade to be offered on the MAXX-Q, in it's "re-vamped" edition. Anyone have any intel?

I e-mailed an inquiry about this several months ago but never got a response.

Gibby

This is the new blade style, there is also a Meyerco MQ with an awesome new tanto grind. I posted these elsewhere in BF, april
If I can locate it I will add a link. edit: Here is the link
I did not add a lot of iinfo, but the new blade shape, the spring is newly designed, the new liner lock design, changes in handle materials to aluminum as well as adding the opposing texture in the handle, grippier than the earlier design.

Interesting link. Is it just me or does it look like DDR is moving towards using a single locking liner versus the conventional dual liners?

harkamus,
The first folding knives that I build we all inlaid locks.
That was many moons ago.
This knife was designed to be strong and minimal.
The lock thickness is close to .1 thick titanium. This is frame lock thickness.
The knife protos shown have underwent many evolutions. We have been experimenting with several ideas.
When it hits the ground we want it to be running fast forward ahead.
There will be two blade designs.
One will be the radian, the other will be a modified bowie.
What you have seen are all protos and not really completed.
If you have off the grid questions please email me a dralph@earthlink.net.
I counted spam the other day. Overnight I got 372 emails. 300 or so were spam. I have three filters in line. If I miss a few emails because of filters I apologize.
Please try the email above.
I want to thank all of you for you patients and support.

Wow. Didn't know Darrel himself was a mod here. Awesome. Thanks for the reply. I sort of assumed you were either busy at the shop or had tons of spam. It happens, which is why I have to regularly check 3 email accounts myself. One for banking, one for "spam," and one for my collegiate career.

I was jones'in for the MQ1A for a while too.... finally got one about 6 months ago... it is a nice knife.

As soon as the Meryerco version is available, I'm going to get one.

Here's my stonewashed MQ1A

jpd---That's the one! It's one of the Top folders out there. I'm surprised that it's a sleeper.

Here is mine. It is ancient proto. One of the first made, the first few were assisted. It has some real character!!
Black thumb studs, a silver pivot pin with a black pivot screw. That's the fun part of protos. ;)

I would have taken it, but you know the deal with my lack of fundage and starting grad school. Still, I was curious about those questions I had. Darrel got back to me and now I'm satiated til I can afford one of my own.
