This is more of a GB&U topic, but pretty much only applies to the folks here in the shoptalk forum.

Anyway, I'm building a forge and bought my material (kaowool, etc.) from Mr. Ellis and the whole transaction was smooth.

Hey guys, thanks for the nice comments! I can't tell you enough how much I sincerely appreciate those kind words! :) Michael and Evgeni, It's been a pleasure doing business with both of you too, thanks again guys!

Rather than buying the refractory material from Darren to build a forge myself, I learned that he also sells forges.

I've already placed my order... I thought his price and delivery time was an outstanding bargain. What a great resource! I have no interest or time in making my own and I'm so glad that he offered this product.

Thanks Darren!

Sincerely,
Rob

Darren, if it's not too much trouble could you send me info on the same burner Bruce was asking about.
Thanks

I have placed an order with Darren as well. Not only does he have the goods, he spent 45 minutes with me answering all of my forge and steel questions. I'll jump on the DE band wagon too! what a guy!

from Darren's website:

Also, please do not eat the refractory supplies, they are not good for you, and besides, they probably don't taste very good.

C'mon now...there has got to be a good story behind this one...:D

Darren, would you be kind enough to post a pic of my forge Im making? These guys sound interested. Maybe you could give us a group rate on the burners?

Dan, Dan, I.G., Peter, and Bruce, I'm out of town tomorrow and will take burner pictures to send to you guys tomorrow night when I get back home...I went to do it tonight and the batteries are dead in the digital camera:confused:

I'll have them to you guys tomorrow night, promise! :)

Sorry Ron, no can do! It's top secret, oh, wait a minute, you were the guy who got me into knifemaking and building forges! I suppose I can share one of the burner designs that you showed me! :D I've got some other designs now as well, if you're interested...

:)

Hi Bruce, I sure will, give me a few minutes to figure it out and I'll get them posted...

As for my branching out into forge building more, well, this is a little awkward, there's been a change of plans this evening. Someone else, who I have a lot of respect for and who got me into knifemaking is apparently still making forges too. I thought he had moved on to other things, but we haven't spoken in a while, and I was mistaken, he's still doing forges as well as other types of equipment. Well, out of respect for him, after I fulfill my current orders for forges, I'm going to have to discontinue making them and put my plans for supplying burners on hold until this person gets out of the forge building business. I know this may sound strange to some, but it's out of my enormous respect for the man who introduced me to this wonderful craft of knifemaking that has literally changed my life. It wouldn't be right for me to compete with my mentor on specialty items such as forges....and I should probably keep in touch with him more too! :) I'll still be sending you guys pictures of the burner tomorrow evening, and if you want to purchase a ready to attach burner I can point you to a good person who is making them.

****I will continue to sell Refractory materials though*****
