I've always had thoughts about a preheater for the forced air forge burner. The concept would be to use some of the wasted heat expelled from the forge to preheat the incoming combustion air with the goal of achieving higher temps. Possible by routing the combustion air through "hot box" section built into the forge side or top. Then direct the preheated air into the combustion area. The fuel might need to be added in a seperate intake with a small amount of ambient air to prevent detonation inside the wind pipe.
The engineer in me is compelled to reclaim some of the wasted energy that is exhausted from opening. I've seen this preheated air concept used on coke fired blast furnaces in foundry applications.
Anyway....just food for thought for all the techno-geek heads that lie awake at night thinking about crazy ideas. (hee hee)
