Dashain Special Deals for 10/5 --Pix and Great Buys

Steve Tall-to me the modification that you made is the extra snap that allows for the thicker spined khukuris, right? If this is correct, then the narrower spined khuks could be held tight by the original (second from the end) snap? The unmodified sheaths are the same sheath with the additional snap, yes?

If this is the case, you should be fine with the Chitlangi or Sirupati warty.

Addition edit: It kinda looks like the Gelbu's sheath may be a little narrower but not easy to see from the pictures. In the above I was under the impression that they were the same without the additional snap and was wondering why it was being called a different model. Pardon my misconception.

warty, the KMEF sheath holds my Chainpur and Gelbu just fine and I believe it would work for your Chit and Siru, too. But if Yangdu has a narrower version you could contact her and see if she'll sell you a couple.

I think the original single snap was meant for thin blades (like the CS model that is thin like the Kabar kukri machete). The thicker HI blades of what I am calling the "narrow" (top to bottom dimension) types (like the sirupati) are probably still be too thick for the original snap (unless the leather (and liner) are bent around the top of the blade somehow?). The snap I added should allow the "narrow" blades like the sirupate to fit in the KMEF sheaths, but the other sheath style (more angular) might give a closer fit with no modifications (like my added snap) required.

Thanks for your clarification Steve. Your modification works really well on the Kami Fund sheaths:thumbup:. I thought I saw a bit more of an angle on the Gelbu's sheath and now all is clear. Now if I could only chase out the fog between my ears:confused:.

Tenbrook, not everyone that snags a Deal Of The Day posts about it. If you haven't received an email back then it is likely that you didn't get it and will have to try again. Sometimes, even if you're not first Yangdu may let you know if she has another in stock that she's willing to sell for the same price. My guess is that her stock is a little low right now but it should build back up shortly.

Welcome to the HI Forum and keep trying. You're sure to get a winner.

... I don't know what's more impressive, the khukuri or the scabbard it comes with. That looks absolutely beautiful, would it be possible to make an order for a blade with that style scabbard or was this a one-time make?

The price was changed or something because it said $175 for sure... I looked at it long and hard. I am certain that it said 175. So you aren't all seeing things, it is just one of those lucky snags at the right minute by the Monkeybutt. :D

The scabbard had me lost for 5 mins staring at its beautiful tones.:D

Yeah, i just realized that monkeybutt got it a long time ago -- was working on my iphone so i was failing at the interweb pretty hard.

It seems that the sword must have dropped prices twice because i originally saw it for $195. If it was $135 from the beginning, there's not a shadow of a doubt that i would have sharked it first.

Wow I didn't realize how lucky I was here. Funny thing is that I got off early from work today and needed to check something on the computer so I thought I'd also check HI forum. Of course at 2:24 no DOTD posted yet, so I signed off and missed the posting w/ the higher price.

Sooo...now I know why the sword was sitting there one and 3/4 hours unspoken for. I was starin' at the pics 'till I was cross-eyed thinking that there must be something that made it undesireable or sumpthin'. Looked good to me so I emailed Yangdu. Must be fate 'cause this fit within the parameters for a sword I wanted to fill by looking at at Filipino, Malayasian, or Taiwanese blades. Much more pleased with this due to the quality and toughness of HI products. Really looking forward to getting this one in hand.

You know I was quite resigned never to get in on a DOTD that I REALLY wanted due to chronically poor time jiving. I guess perseverence and luck counts as it is true that every dog has its day. Woof Woof.

It's a beautiful sword for sure monkeybutt. The gods of incredible luck were shining down on you today -- great job of seizing your opportunity!

I think you're mistaken as I posted within the same minute as Auntie Yangdu and it was listed at $175. I would have had it by 3:02 unless someone was faster. Congrats monkeybutt.

I guess it doesn't really matter. I probably shouldn't have even said anything. We all got sharked by monkeybutt no matter how you slice it.
