I went to your first post, near the bottom where it says . (img) I right clicked one of them and selected view image.How the heck did you do that?
I don't see any reason for those grooves in the first place.
They weaken the integrity of the slabs and I can't see how they would improve your grip.
Maybe just a whim of a guy who like to carve on wood.
Blade steel is 440C. DM
I usually prefer carbon steels, but I always liked this 440C steel. I think they used (still use?) it for Swiss Army knives.
From Wikipedia: 440C is a 400 series stainless steel, and is the highest carbon content from 400 stainless steel series. It is usually heat treated to reach hardness of 58–60 HRC. It is a bearing steel, and used in rolling contact stainless bearings, e.g. ball and roller bearings. It is also used to make knife blades.

Bill Keys placed the 2 dot 110's began at 1975. This one looks like it has the large pins which puts it at 1978. Just from my notes. DM
