Dating a Custom Shoppe 110???

More on stag scales...My friends at Talkblade.info tell me that stag "moves" according to moisture content in the atmosphere...so if a custom knifemaker in Panama made you a set of scales for your knife, and you live in Arizona, the scales will definately shift around, curl, shrink, expand, whatever...

Also, horn can be shaped to fit a knife (or pistol grip) by boiling it and then clamping to the desired shape...

Interesting...

BTW: I don't really set scales on fire... ;) I just know what they smell like when my sander "burns" through a sample...

(Except for one cellulose scaled knife I had when I was a kid...I wanted to mount hardwood scales, and set fire to the cellulose scales...they went up in a flash, leaving a lattice-like ash structure behind...fascinating...) :)

OK, I'm sorry, but that is funny!!!

Thanks for the stag info. My eye caught the words "stag moves" as "stag movie" and I thought you were taking this knife obsession a bit too far Trax.

I look forward to getting my mits on a stag 110/2 someday. They look awesome. Thanks to all for their pics too!!!

Goose.

...???...I don't know why...

It left the liner exposed, with the scale pins sticking out...I cut/sanded/drilled my scales to fit, slipped them over the pins, and epoxied them in place...no peening required... :)

Just imagining you standing there...and "poof". Just the flair in how you described it in writing. :)

Oh...now you tell me after I put the torch to a set of antlers out in the garage. My wife thinks I'm crazy; but, at first she thought i caught my hair on fire with the torch. She also wanted to know what I was doing smelling the handles of my knives!!!

When I was little, I had green plastic army men that I'd set on fire...the plastic burned & melted at the same time...I still have some of the scars...

I had a lot of models...cars, planes, tanks...I'd take the plastic "trees" that the parts came on and make structures out of them; melt them together with a woodburning set/iron...like big ladders, walkways...for the army men, of course... ;)

The 50's were a fun time to be a kid... :D

Why do I get the feeling that your family had to "rebuild" a lot when you were a kid? :D

There were no problems...My dad taught me well...

I used to make little WWII rifles out of solder...melt the solder to rough shape; file to final form; make wood stocks out of scrap...resorcinol glue to hold the little stocks together...really neat stuff... :)

And I thought I was the only one that did that kind of stuff. I guess you give a kid a wood buring kit and a bunch of plastic and you have to expect that to happen. We would melt the plastic and pretend the melted droppings were bombs as they landed on the "enemy" plastic army men.

Do you remember the "frogmen" that came in the Kelloggs cereal boxes??? A red one, a yellow one, and a green one (I think)...one had a mine, one a knife...don't recall the third...you put a little slug of baking soda in their base/foot, and they would dive & surface...lots of fun... :D
