All,

I like the style of the Dave Beck WSK. Since funds are limited I would like to try to make one of my own. The part that has me scratching my head is the "hook" portion right behind the hatchet portion of the blade. Does anyone have any tips or advice on how to grind this part of the knife edge? Please see attached to see which part of the blade I am discussing.

Thanks.

If it were me, I would grind that inside radius/recurved portion first. Then go and grind the front edge, blending the bevel back to where you want it.

The way I did mine, (5160-ish Chevy Leaf Spring) was to hold the knife so that part of the blade was square with the grinding wheel and ground it in. Then I blended it in with a file. This was my second becuase I screwed up the first, on that part. I also increased the size of the grinds obviously to add better geometry, which is one of the drawbacks to this design. Anyway good luck and I'm sorry for the poor cell phone pic. Post yours when it's done or just to let us see how your coming along.:D
