I have a David Yellowhorse Police that I bought used a gun shop about 11 or 12 years ago. It has a ringed planet and the spyderco spyder done in different stone. When I bought it, I got the original paperwork but it was lost over the years through several moves. I have two questions. There are some small chips in the turquiose part of the handle. It looks like it might get worse. Any ideas of where to get it repaired and if Yellowhorse doesn't do the repair will it affect the value of the knife? Also any idea want it is worth? Other than the small chips I would rate it as excellent not quite mint. Any help would be appreciated.

Phantom4 - David Yellowhorse mader less than 200 Spyderco Police model handles. He then signed an exlcusive contract with Buck which eliminated Spyderco as a customer. These are very rare.

The design that you are speaking of does not ring a bell. Santa Fe Stoneworks has been doing handles ever since David stopped. There was a model with Saturn (the ringed planet) and other solar bodies. This was called the "Earthling". Not too many made, although Santa Fe Stoneworks will make one for a customer seeking this design. However, I don't remember turquoise on the handle. Do you have a photo? That might help us determine who made the handle.

Sal, this is definitely a Yellowhorse-- it is signed on the back, with a number. I'm not a rock hound so I'm not positive about the turquoise but the stone is turquoise colored.

Phantom4 - If you have all of the pieces, I believe David used "Crazy glue" to glue in the pieces. If you don't, David would be the best to repair (or a stone cutter). All in one piece, I have heard that this is a rare piece and have heard of them going for $500+ to Yellowhorse collectors.

Sal, thanks for the info. The stone in question is not really chipped, it is almost crumbly, from the natural texture of the rock, it is kind of hard to explain. Do you think a jeweler could do anything with it? I'm already thinking that $500 will get me a Military, the new daddy dyad a second Moran with cash left over. This is indeed great news the day I a have to fork over a sizable amount of cash to Uncle Sam.

Phantom4 - Actually, I think that Bill Wirtle over at Santa Fe Stoneworks could do the best job. I don't know if they will? they are sort of competitors with David Yellowhorse, but their skill is excellent. Worth a phone call I think. You might be able to get a line on Yellowhorse collectors through Buck. They make a lot of Yellowhorse knives. Hope this helps. Let us know what ultimately happens?
