What knife did Dave use in the swamp episode on Dual Survivor when he caught & killed the alligator for food?

Pathfinder by Blind Horse Knives

Think he's used it every episode. It's his design.

Yeah, nice knife for sure, but $275...ouch.

for a knife of it's size that's a "small scale production" knife the price seems fairly reasonable... but then i didn't see them at the early price.

even a BRKT of roughly the same size will be about that price.

if you want cheaper i think you'll need to go with a production knife, not a "custom".

Just watching Cody using his $12 Mora is inspiring. I haven't seen Dave do anything with his knife (including killing the gator) that he couldn't have done with a Mora.

Technique over technology!

There is another "pathfinder" knife being made by TOPS on Daves website. Looks nothing like the BHK offering tho

I got in a Mora like Cody's a carbon one, full tang and a stainless steel model with a guard. I must say they are VERY good knives, especially for the price.

The carbon model like Cody carries is EXCELLENT to use as a stiker for the ESEE Firekit, I have used it several times, it does a great job.

There are a lot of good brands of knives out there but it is hard to beat an ESEE knife! :)

Dave just posted this on his Facebook.

what model Mora has the full tang? i've seen pix of ONE from Helle, but can't remember the name.

there's an xray pic floating around of just how tiny the tangs on most if them is. only goes about 1" into the handle, and not quite 2"on the "craftsman" versions.

i heard Cody calls it a "full tang" knife on his site, but if you can't see the steel between the scales ALL the way round it's not really "full tang" is it?

umm... none of those are full tang.

Personally, I don't really understand the small knife + even smaller knife combo's.....I do like a mid-sized blade plus 3" blade, e.g. ESEE-6/3 combo or my S-Curve/Culberson EDC combo....

Cody isn't really a knife-guy. I'm pretty sure he is confusing through-tang with full tang terminology. I wouldn't really hold it against him though, he is afterall a make due with what you got kind of person. I've seen his earlier vid's where he knaps his own edge with flint and cleans a rat with it

Fixer - I always love that shot. I do believe the Mora#1, not pictured in that shot, is a full through tang with the tang peened on the end. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Okay, more knife misinformation...Here is the description of the mora #1 from Ben's Backwood's site:

THIS IS A NEW FROSTS MORA KNIFE MADE IN SWEDEN WITH 3 7/8 INCH BLADE MADE OF SWEDISH LAMINATED HIGH CARBON STEEL.LAMINATED STEEL GIVES YOU A VERY TOUGH OUTER LAYER AND A ULTRA HARD CORE WITH A ROCKWELL HARDNESS OF 61-62.NATURAL BIRCH WOOD HANDLE.THESE KNIVES HAVE A FULL TANG.THERMOPLASTIC SHEATH.RAZOR SHARP MADE IN SWEDEN.

Ragnar provides this description on the guarded mora but makes no specific mention of the tang on the #1...

tainless Steel Knives with Guards

Knives with guards are often used by Scouts and other children in Scandinavia. It is something of a rite of passage when the child is considered skilled and careful enough to remove the guard. These are from Eriksson, and made with the excellent Sandvik stainless steel. The blades are .098" (2 mm) thick and hardended to about 58 on the Rockwell "C" scale. Unlike much stainless, they really do hold an edge. The tangs run the full length of the handle and are secured at the pommel with a collar. They come with simple stamped stainless guards and birch handles. A flat leather sheath with a keeper strap is provided.

yeah... not a huge fault on Cody for a fairly minor flub on terminology. and i'm going on what i've heard, but then the same source also said he was asking a silly price for the knife on his site.

he seems like a decent guy... but i'd like to see him try and walk across the street here in Vegas mid day in june, july or august.

anyway... if someone can point me to an actual full, or even thru tang Mora or similar i'd be interested. wouldn't mind picking up some.

and the full tang Helle i saw looked decent. i may have ti gi back iver to W&SS and hunt it down again.

Yup, the Mora #1 is full tang, that is the one I got in from Ben's Backwoods.

I have also seen a Mora model #1 that has a guard on it.

There are quite a few models now being offered in either carbon steel or stainless steel.

Ben's Back Woods is the best place (in my humble opinion) to get them. :)

BUT The Northwest Woodsman has this model in stock:

Mora of Sweden Knifes are very popular among outdoorsman and for good
reason, they make a great knife at a great price. Made of carbon steel, they are
sturdy, functional, lightweight knife that fits well in your hand. Makes a
wonderful neck knife when you are working around camp.

Mora 612

Which is a Model #1 with the guard I mentioned earlier (he is also a great person to buy from too!).
