Does any one have any experience dealing with David Beck ? I know the quality of his work, I have never heard a bad thing about him or his knives. Im about ready to spend alomost 3 grand on several knives from him and when my order comes up he wants payment in full. I have seen many times on this forum that this is not a good idea, any feed back would be helpfull, thanx.

Hi, I don't know him at all but would be very wary of paying up front with any maker

Seen quite a few people here come up short.
I only expect the customer to pay when he is happy with the pictures of the final product

Given all the posts here of people getting stung and all the advice to not pay up front why would this even occur to you?

He has perfect ebay feedback, which seems to be how he sells some knives now. That being said, if these are standard models, I won't pay all of it up front, only a token percentage, if that. It's standard practice in the cutlery industry. The only time you should pay a substantial portion upfront is if super special materials are involved, or the design is so outlandish that it would be near unsellable to anyone but you.

A 20% deposit should be more than sufficient for standard nothing off the wall custom models.I've never heard one negative thing about him either, but payment in full before they are complete is a red flag to me that someone might be robbing peter to pay paul in my experience.

Dave is an A+ guy to deal with, very well known for his work and I for one am glad to see him back in business. I doubt you will have any issues.

Hello to all & maybe I can clear up some mis-interpretations.
I never require up front payments or deposits of any amount on the std. knives I offer. I would certainly agree that anyone who requests payment up front, especially those in full, deserve some hesitation. I only request payment I am ready to begin work exclusively for that customer & guaranty shipment of my knives within two weeks after the payment arrives. This eliminates additional delays incurred by customers as their order is being completed the same time payment is clearing. As many of my customers pay by checks this works out very well for them. For those who pay by more secure methods, shipping time is faster as merchandise is sent immediately upon completion. Hopefully this helps to relieve any confusion on my business practices.

After Mr. Beck explained his process here on BF I ordered 2 knives from him. I probably dont need to tell you how great his knives are, but his customer service is awesome. He is a very friendly man,he kept me in the loop the whole time. Knives were delivered as promised and completed in 2 weeks after he was ready for my order as he stated. I was very lucky he was ready to complete my order about 1 month earlier than expected. I will absolutly do buisness withn this man again.
