This is my daughter's folder. She discussed the knife with David at the Nov 99 Contemporary Metal Works Show. David sent her a sketch and they agreed on a Dec 2000 delivery. The knife was delivered a few days ago.

The bronze handle has been sculpted, textured and antiqued. The liner lock is nested in the handle. The screws, pivot and thumbstud are also textured. The blade and backspacer are damascus. The base of the blade has been textured and heat colored to gold. If you look close you can see how the liner lock is cut to be flush with the handle. David makes incredible knives and is great to work with.

David's wife Sue composed and took both pictures.

My daughter is very happy with the knife. I couldn't be more proud of her.

Chuck,

No disrespect intended, but how old is your daughter? She can't be any kid to have designed a knife like that!

Chuck,

Now EVERYONE is going to want a Broadwell folder! I hate to say it, but her tastes surpass most of us here on the forums, including you and I Chuck.

Dave Broadwell is one of the best there is at putting his "face" on a knife. Congrats to Dave and your daughter, Chuck!

I think he patched them all with toothpaste and copper colored crayon before he sent the knife out to the customer Tom

Wow! That is an amazing folder. I really like the carved blade, the blade profile, the color scheme, Everything. Awesome knife!

Hi, I'm Chuck's daughter. Thank you everyone for your kind comments. Tom I'd like to meet you (hopefully in your state). I like your knives a lot. Hope to see you sometime soon in the future. Mitch, I love all the things you did with titanium on your website. Of course, I have kind of a soft spot for titanium.

I am 14 and have always been my Daddy's girl. I started collecting knives when I was about 7. When I was 12, I bought my first custom (Koji Hara). I saved up my babysitting money and allowance all year to buy the Broadwell knife. I love now being able to tease my Dad about having better and nicer knives than he does.

I did not design the knife. To me, design means to hand the maker a set of blueprints to work from. I told David that I wanted a small folder with lots of Broadwell swoops and swooshes, but tried to be general so I wouldn't restrict him. I had complete trust in him about my knife because I believe David knows what looks good. He is a great guy to work with and is incredibly friendly.

Hi Jessica,
Welcome to the forums.

Looks like you already have good knowledge to offer here on letting a maker have some artistic freedom.
Glad to have you and your dad in our community.

Hi Chuck!!

Jessica,
Welcome to the forums. NICE KNIFE!! I just showed my KNIFE NUT daughter (9) your knife.. she was speechless for a second or two and then said WOW...Awesome!!!! So far her pride and joy is a SpeedTech Synergy. I'm sure a custom will be in her future, I pointed out that you earned the money for yours by babysitting, hint, hint

Don't sell yourself short, Jessica - you found an artist who expresses himself in a way you appreciate, and you found a way to make his style mesh with your personal taste. That may not be design in the traditional sense, but the knife, an original piece of art, probably wouldn't exist if you hadn't reached out to Dave and turned him loose.
