David Carradine RIP

...he was given the Kung-Fu TV role that should have gone to Bruce Lee, a real martial artist. Watching him try to do fight scenes was always good for laughs though.

I agree that he wasn't the best when it came to the fight scenes, but he did an excellent job of the acting and had the kind of gentle personality on screen that made you believe he really was a Shaolin priest. And I still remember him as the bad guy in "Lone Wolf McQuade" with Chuck Norris. Awesome movie!

RIP David... :(

On the news last night, the anchor was quoting lawyer Mark Geragos that Carradine was supposedly killed by a "secret society of martial artists" or a "secret kung fu society", because he was "interested in secret martial arts societies". I'm sorry, but that has to be one of the absolute stupidest things I've ever heard. I'm sure this stems from the romanticized stereotypes many westerners have rather than from any reality. I'm certain if it was anything to do with some Asian organized crime group, it's not a bunch of kung fu fighters or some top-secret cabal of ninja assassins. That such ridiculous claims can be made on a major network shows the National Enquirer mentality and doesn't do any good for Carradine's family.

It reminds me of the talk of a "Bruce Lee family curse" when Brandon Lee died in 1993. It wasn't a curse; someone switched a blank gun for one loaded with bullet(s). I still feel that case is more suspicious than accidental, but in no way was it some family curse.

I remember when Bruce Lee died and the rumor that – among others – he was killed with and ax by a member of the Tong, for revealing eastern secrets to the westerners. Whatever. Sad to see David go the way he did. He came from a great family of performers and it's sad to see his part of the Carradine legacy end.

Exactly what happened (in the Lee case) was the film crew was running behind and lacking a real blank cartridge took a real cartridge apart, removed the powder, left the primer and then the gun was fired. This caused a low powered load and they didn't realize the bullet was lodged in the barrel. When the gun was later loaded with the actual blanks, there was enough power from the powder to push the bullet out of the barrel and it tragically lodged in Mr. Lee's spine causing his death.
