David Martin Look at This!!

You guy's should stop all that now. I'm not all that modest by nature but ya'll are making me feel all shy and nervous. ;);)

David is sending me the DVD's from the Idaho get together and I just responded in kind with a used knife that's a hobby modification but a blade he wanted...That's it no biggee. Besides, it wasn't my last DP;);)

yeah, yeah, next thing we know you will be trying to sell us on some whopper fish story....:D

Thanks for the opening there Larry...so the big fish story:

On the 4th, the wife and I smoked 4 full racks of babyback ribs and made festivities next door with our very good friends the Abisalih's. Dave is few years years older than me but has a 12 year old son (on his second round of life) named Zach who has decided to take up fishing. So I've taken him and his dad twice this summer prior to yesterday. Saturday Zach ask if we can go and despite needing to cut grass (its been raining practically everyday for about 2 weeks) I said yes and we took off yesterday for a Sunday afternoon trip on the Androscoggin River just north of Lewiston/Auburn Maine (I recommend doing a google earth sat. view up the river; we fished Gulf Island pond which is a dam created lake on the river). We fished the back bays, first because Zach likes catching yellow perch as much as anything and I was looking for a big pike and large mouth bass. The Andro is a world class small mouth fishery but its different habitat than pike and LM. So we hit a bunch of back water that I've mostly ignored for the last 10 years as I primarily fish smallies on the river.

Short note about Northern Pike, they are an illegally indroduced species to Maine. Maine's Dept of Wildlife and Fisheries wants you to kill all you catch. Not me I like catching them and I too do not hail from Maine. :)

Anyway, we had a good afternoon fishing and stayed with it to right at 8pm. We caught between the three of us over 50 fish with the majority being yellow perch. I had both Dave and Zach on a Mepps #2 gold most of the day and they caught a variety of fish caught to include a crappie which up to this point I'd only heard about in Maine but never seen caught. Mine was the only Pike but many pickerel, one 2-3lb class LM and one 4lb class smallie. Total smallies were close to a dozen although the back bays are usually poor areas for them.

The pike was 30 inches and just over 9 lbs...I used my Vantage Pro to nick her under the chin to hook up for a weight. Forgot I had my hat off, that 4 mile run down the river at 40mph turned my hair into something Phil Spector might like.

I think I saw some Hollywood 'dudes' that look just like that on the front of a movie magazine in the dentist office.........maybe they had been 'fishin' too........300
