I cast a vote towards Magnacut. I've got a fair bit of AEB-L, 15N20, and a smattering of 3V in the works. I've not had much experience with Magnacut. I'd be excited to see what can be done with it here.

I'm not a fixed blade user much but I agree with DocJD that the blade's use would more dictate what steel I would prefer. That and I have zero experience with 15N20. Not sure if MagnaCut is beat it with a hammer tough the way AEB-L and 3V are. I'm also still unclear why we were seeing so many MagnaCut blades with rust on them when I've seen videos of dead sea level saltwater not even touch the stuff with rust. And the HRC window is still weird to me with some brands doing 60-62 and some harder. Maybe 3V would be my pick if my hand was forced.

I'm only picking 3V, because your Prevex looks So Good!

-otherwise I'd pick a different steel.

Magnacut because David will get the the most bang for it’s intended use, higher RC

I'm having Peter's run the new MagnaCut batch at 62 HRC. I consider that maybe the higher end of medium. However, I do have some EDC and necker sized blanks blanks at 63 in the shop still.

and his designs would make it a winning combination.

Thank you for the very generous words.

Thank you for the kind words Craig!

I had one run of a dozen Prevexes cut so far. Four of them have been built and sold, one is sitting on my kitchen table searching for meaning (but already offered in trade privately, awaiting a private response), and I have another half a dozen in the shop, three of which are claimed via ROFR. There are zero Prevexes in the new 2025 run, which leaves me with three blanks of that design. But sadly, not in my wildest imaginings did a Prevex occur to me for the giveway alluded to in this thread. Why? Well if you followed the math so far, you will note one of the dozen Prevexes not yet accounted for... The David Marys and Dinos giveaway knife.

How many who voted 3V would not have done so if they had known that the only knife in 3V I can make for this giveaway is a 3" hawkbill?

Depending on which steel gets the most votes, I am going to arbitrarily select a blank that I actually have in stock in that steel. Assume a small knife, regardless of the winning alloy.

I should have made that info clear at the start, but I just updated the poll to allow votes to be changed if anyone wants to.

The poll doesn't have a specified end date, other than "whenever I decide it's time".

Still magnacut here. If not Magnacut, then AEB-L. to my way of thinking, with the exact design of the knife unknown I figure you can't go wrong with the stainless.

Is something wrong with a small knife in V3? I love the numbers on Larrin's chart.

3" hawkbill
Unless it's just a kitchen knife ,or something else where great corrosion resistance is needed , 3V can be kind of freeing , even for a small fixed or folder .

Didn't used to think that way , but my 3V Pendleton Mini Hunter and 3V AD-10 brought me around .

Maybe AEB-L can be just as tough ? I just have zero experience with that steel .
