David Mirabile San-Mai Damascus Tanto (VIDEO)

Breathtakingly beautiful interpretation of a tanto.

Serious battle blade indeed!!!

Great video as usual. As others have mentioned, its visible how much you want to get the excellent qualities of the Mirabile blade across - thats a great quality for a video to have.

Thank you

It's a long video but how do you cover something like this in just a few minutes :)

This piece really did excite me

It just really works and looks like nothing else out there

Nice video. I gotta think that takes some time and effort.

And if you're going to bleed money, might as well be on a Donzi. If you're not bleeding money on it, you're doing it wrong. :)

Anyway, congrats on one of the two best days in the life of a boat owner. ;)

Ken that's true :)

I grew up on boats

My dad had a marina growing up I've been around and on boats my entire life

From boat boy to mate to running my own rigs offshore tournament fishing

In fact VW never had less than two boats laying around

I just sold my Contender fishing rig and this is my attempt at a family boat :)

I still have my Airboat so I still a two boat guy :)

I wouldn't know what to do with out something that floats

You are correct though boats can be rough but believe me I do prett good on them I know how t maintain them and sell them

Here is a little video I did on selling the Contender and picking up the Donzi Classic 22

This is a nice piece

From the era of the hand laid hulls and a brand new Mercury Racing Blie Motor

Plus it was a fresh water boat

Like finding a classic Ferrari Dino of Shelby Cobra in a barn upstate NY with a brand new worked racing motor

Joe you have too much fun :) Great video you never disappoint and good looking boat.

Thanks Vic's

Here is Coops fantastic images

These photos were just taken and you can clearly see that the blade shows no signs of abrasion from the cutting

Wow! Such fine photographs. The detail, clarity, crisp focus, (remember, I can point and shoot and that's about it - so amateur words also), and set up seem perfect. The layering of the Damascus in the fuller..... all amazing.

A gorgeous Tanto from David. Perfect photos from Coop, and very nicely brought to our attention by Joe. Thank you all. What a treat. Mike

Mike

Thank you

Guys like you make these dream pieces happen whether you know it or not :)

With out the patrons of the arts there are no arts :)

Sorry for getting to this thread so late.
Joe has asked me so many times for something that he could cut mats with, but usually there would be a customer waiting for the completed piece, and not that I didn't think that the earlier pieces would cut, but the timing was never right. Well, I felt that this tanto just wanted to cut something. So after completing the saya, off to Joe to see what it could do. I knew that it would cut, but I also thought it would have some type of surface scratching on the softer stainless. In this case as confirmed by Joe and Coop, the blade is as I sent it to Joe before cutting any mats.

I want to thank everyone for taking time to comment on this thread, and I especially want to thank Joe Paranee... You can't do much better than having Joe as a friend. His knowledge and real life experience with knives, swords, guns etc. brings so much to his reviews. All that you do Joe, is greatly appreciated. Rock on Brother

Coop, your images are great, as always! Thanks

My thumbs are sore and my feet are getting cold, so I'm going to the forge to warm up and make something!

David

I too was amazed that the etched part of th blade showed no abrasion .......... I didn't cup any cuts thou :)

That was my concern with these laminated pieces

If it would yes it would be a simple fix but I love that if you cut correctly they show no ware

David my brother it is I that is honored to call you friend

Merry Xmas buddy arent ya glad your off that damn cold boat :)

I miss sleeping on my boat... The best sleep ever.
But I am house and dog sitting for the next couple months...
Good to be back with Spanky on these long cold nights!

No I won't let Angelica see this post! Ja ja ja!!!

Joe is correct: I did NOTHING other than oil the blade lightly before I shot this. No scratches. No photoshop. Mint.

David's steel is SO fine in layers. Delicate, yet sturdy.

I'm told I didn't treat the cord right. I haven't a clue. it came wrapped securely, and I know that it's a special knot, so I left it alone. If you can tell this, you know your stuff. :D

David and Joe: Working with you and you projects is always, always a pleasure.

Mike: Thank you.

Coop
