I spent the day down at the fish camp today, fish were just not biting. I did have a good time playing with the dog, and spending some time out in the swamp. There were plenty of ducks, but little other widlife stirring around. I thought I'd share some pics from today.

Great photos! Thanks. Cool looking dog. Where in the country are you? Also what kinds of fish and what kinds of tackle, if I may ask?

I am in Northwest Florida, we were fishing for crappie using live minnows, and also trying to pick up some channel cats using cut mullet as bait. The river system is falling, but supposed to be rising over the weekend, the catfishing should pick up then. I'm going to try it Saturday evening, then do some hunting Sunday. I made a little slide show on Photobucket with some pics I've taken down there, during both summer and winter:

Fishshooter,
I really enjoyed your sideshow.
That's a lot of slow moving water, how are the skeeters?
You have some awesome bird photos in that set.

Thanks for sharing your great photos.

It's been a while but I can remember using chicken livers for catfish while fishing along the Potomac worked very well. It's hard to keep it on the hook though. Beautiful country down there. Good luck Saturday evening and Sunday and thanks again for the photos. -DT

Believe it or not, they are not that bad in this area. The water is fed from a river that empties into another river. When the second river is high, the area fills up, but the water is always moving, no standing pools. Usually in the summer when they would be the worst, the water level is low enough that the current will drift a loose boat more than one mile an hour. However, where the two rivers converge, there are some back water areas that the skeeters are horrible in. There is a cut off between the two rivers north of where they naturally meet, this forms an island about ten miles long and two miles across. There are hardwoods in the middle, with swamps and slough along the sides. Great hunting, from squirrels and rabbits to deer and hogs.

Tom, liver works great. One way to use it is wrap it in a piece of panty hose or cheese cloth, then put in on the hook. The fish will pick it up anyways. Real fresh, bloody liver works best.

Great pictures, thanks for sharing.

It seems really strange to talk about mosquitoes with snow on the ground. :D

Excellent pictures, thanks for sharing. I was just about to chime in about pantyhose but you beat me to it!
