At the west end of Simi Valley there is a hill with a large white cross at the top of it. You can see it from most of the valley. I have been wanting to take the kids there, sort of a pilgrim's hike if you will. I have dedicated 2009 to be outdoors more with the kids. I am at enmity with WII and Nintendo. So, in the last week of Feb. on Saturday, we did the hike. I hope you enjoy the pictures.....
This is from the trail head on Royal and Madera one block into residential. The path is marked well.
This is the base of the trail head as we leave the suburban jungle.
These are my twin boys and my two step sons. They fight like brothers and then they get over it faster than dad does.
The twins are front and back and my step sons are in the middle, they call me dad, even when their real dad is around. I never asked them to call me dad, I guess I must have earned it. The backpack carrier got to use my walking stick- California juniper, it was made by some guy I met in Victorville many years ago, who was down and out, and that is how he earned a livin. I paid too much for it, but I felt at the time, it was right to do so.
Almost had a real good shot of the hawk, camera is slow.
The youngest was a little disturbed about the woman in the middle of the picture. "Who is that dad?" "Don't worry Carson, that is just a feral lunch lady. Do you owe her milk money? She may be after you to collect it." Carson replies, "Daaaaadddd."
I teach them that we pack out more trash than we pack in, it is the rule of the trail. We filled up the costco bag full of trash. I will save my comments for another part of the BF to describe how I feel about polluters.
Almost to the top.
