The nice thing about living near the mountaint is that you can be in the "wilderness" in 5 minutes. Last weekend, my wife and I decided to take advantage of the nice spring weather (mid 70's) and hike up into the hills above the city we live in. It was a nice time to go. The hills are mostly green right now, but that will only last another couple of weeks. Then everything will be yellow/brown. We saw a lot of blooming flowers, and a lot of bugs. Even saw a few quail and lizards (not fast enoug to capture on camera). Please forgive my mediocre photo taking skills. This is about as much of the wilderness as my 12-yr old daughter can handle.
We're going camping in a couple of weeks. Hope to post more pictures then.

The only knife pictured is a TAK-1 on my hip. You can see the handle a little. Didn't get to use it much though.

Cool pics and welcome to the forums. I wish I was closer to some hills to work out on.

Nice work getting the kids out and about.

That is open space. It is the foothills of the Wasatch Mtn range. It is right at the edge of the Wasatch National Forest.

Cool pics, thanks for sharing. It can be hard to get daughters in the woods once they hit their teens. That looks like an interesting place to do some survival skills training.

You are lucky just to get her out there. I know many people whose daughters won't even consider going outside and walking on grass, let along on a hike or in the woods.
