Hey there Beckerheads.
It's been a while since I took pictures of our day hikes so I figured today would be a good day to do so.
First check the trail map to get a rough idea of where you are going.

Took out the BK15 and the little guy, despite the fact he owns hundreds of dollars worth of custom/production knives, takes the blunt tip Mora. Why? Because it cuts the best. The BK14 is his favorite but I think he's on to the fact that I un-sharpened it. He's been really careful lately so I think it's time to put an edge on it.

Today was survival day.
First thing was fire. He loves hunting fatwood and found some right away. Then he found some dry leaves off the ground along with a dead tree that had dry branches off the ground.

Now that we found most of the fire making supplies, it's time for water. Found a water vine but he said "Daddy, we have Gatorade. We don't need to cut that." Fair enough. We still tracked down a small creek and found some quarts for sparking off the 15. It should be noted that I am 0/? with flint-steel fire starting so I want to work on that some more before I try and teach him. Also I don't like using a blade as the striker if I don't have to and I left the striker at home.

Found this plant in the creek and for some reason was thinking it was edible. Did not eat it, just took a pic to identify later.

Now it was time to get some food for the belly. Figured a figure 4 deadfall would work.

It looks like we got something. A rare breed of ramenhotdogimus. We don't kill without eating so fortunately I had the gear to process the game. Before we start getting ready to feast, time to get our bearings. We rarely stay on the trail and we had to go roughly north/east to get back.

We ate fast and he knocked a log onto the rock and moved it. I still explained the process and set it up for him to finish. Time to head out.

We also ran into some small bamboo so we made a small frog spear. He was not allowed to spear any frogs though. After a long conversation about frogs and what they taste like, we now have frozen frog legs thawing on the counter. He gets to find out tonight that chicken tastes like frog.

We also ran into a family with a puppy and a 4 y/o dog in the parking lot so we were trying to track them to see how far they had gone. My tracking skills are not great but I can get the easy signs.

One hour hiking. Two hours playing in the creek.
[/IMG]
Like any responsible father (when mommy is not there) I said "sure, go climb the super high steep rocks".
[/IMG]
Now a bunch of random knife pics of the 15 and mora.
