Day in the Desert with little man!!...an a Busse

Can't beat a day father son/daughter bonding in the outdoors with guns and knives. My father wasn't much of an outdoorsman but I was lucky to have a couple of uncles who were and who took me under their wings so to speak.

There is another big lesson being taught here. He sits alone on the vehicle holding a large and very sharp knife under his own control, out of immediate reach of dad.

The unspoken lesson: I trust you. You are responsible enough to do this, a lesson that so many kids today never get the chance to learn. My dad did the same with me, turning me loose with my own knife at age 4, and a single shot 12 gauge shotgun at age 8 (I was a very big kid and could handle the recoil.) I never got in trouble with either one.

Congratulations to you and the lucky young man.

I assure you that was the biggest thing on my mind at the moment.. I explained that to him.. he is great at following my instruction. An with the huge flat fender flares.. I told him to not move his feet or butt. An the pic took about five seconds.. then he was safely back down . This kid is my world and I wouldn't have done this if he was one of those a.d.d. kids.. he has changed out my dodge ram heads with me an an alternator an other stuff an he is great at understanding when to stay firmly still... even then it was only long enough to snap a shot... he wasn't hangin out up there.

Thanks for sharing those great pics Rob!
I've got another year or two until I can start doing outings like this with my boy, and I can't wait. So looking forward to it
